Hello!

Yesterday I filled out an editor application for the following category:

http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Home_Improvement/Hardware/Decorative/

Oh, by the way, I had no idea this website existed until a reply email was sent to me after the application - tons of great content here! :) OK, back to the topic on hand.

I was denied in being an editor because the examples I gave didn't enable users to buy from the site, hence are "Shopping" websites. Of course, that makes total sense now, the ole "slap to the forehead" moment!. So, after a little research I found the following categories that better fit the list of companies I have. FYi: I have a list of 185 door and cabinet hardware manufacturers that would fit a into some decorative hardware or building hardware category. I can also gather a list of shopping websites as I've done research on them as well.

http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Constr..._Windows/Hardware_and_Accessories/Decorative/

and

http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Constr.../Materials_and_Supplies/Specialties/Hardware/

Both are relevant as each have a few of the sites already listed on my list. Furthermore, after reading about categorization, sub-categories under editor guidelines it's completely possible to rework some of the categories into a new hierarchy. Of course, I'm getting ahead of myself here as I must first be approved to be an editor...

So here are my questions:

1.) Which category should I choose?
2.) Should I apply to be an editor of all three categories? I would provide new examples for the shopping category?

Thanks for the advice!

Kind Regards,
Christy G

Just choose one of the categories and request it with three appropriate examples.

Once you're an editor and can show that you know what you're doing, you can request further categories for the same editor account. Becoming an editor in a smallish category is but the first step of a journey :)

PS. You can check whether or not a website is already listed by using our search for domain.tld without any http or www prefixes (eg google.com).
