Hi,

Could someone please advise me on how I can change the Editor settings for our company when I dont have the previous users email or login details. It was obviously quite some time ago or it could have been a consultant doing some work for us. I am the marketing manager for the company in question and require to alter our directories as our company has changed names and needs updating.

Many thanks in advance. Cathy

Hi Cathy,

I hope there has been a misunderstanding here -- are you referring to the information about the company in the Open Directory Project? The people who add or amend listings in the ODP directory are editors; companies do not get login information to change their information themselves. An editor account "belongs" to one person -- accounts should under no circumstances be shared within a group of people, or be inherited by another person. (And in any case, ODP editing is a hobby, and should not be part of anybody's paid employment, because that pretty much defeats the purpose of the directory.)

If you want to update a current listing in the ODP, please go to the directory category where the URL is listed (somewhere in http://www.dmoz.org ) and click "Update listing" at the top of the directory page. Please do not succumb to the temptation to add marketing hype or extra keywords to the title or description, as they will not be added, and could cause the update request to be overlooked (as many people submit requests for updates only in order to change their descriptions to advertising.) The update request will be processed by an editor, but unfortunately there is no way to know when it will happen.
