Hi need to make one url relevent in many countries and many product categories how many ODP listings are allowed before we considered spammers or is it permissable if you have representation in many countries and diversity of products to submit multiple categories on dmoz?

Without further information, submitting to more than one category would be considered spamming. Submitting more than once would be considered spamming.

http://www.dmoz.org/add.html says:

Identify the single best category for your site.

Please only submit a URL to the Open Directory once

Spamming- I was always of an opinion dmoz offered a regional an product listing.

What if site geniunely competes in lots of countries and each site content is specific to the country but works off variation of url. Would dmoz permit the varations on url if content unique to original url

Generally speaking, "relevant in lots of countries" translates to "NOT RELEVANT TO ANY COUNTRY IN PARTICULAR COUNTRY", and therefore "not listable anywhere in Regional at all".

So you should look for your one listing in Shopping, Business, or some such place.

You mention site "competing". This is irrelevant. We don't care whether it competes or not. We care whether it has unique relevant content.

"Works off variation of URL" is a wierd long way around of saying "deeplink." We don't care how you do your deeplinks: vanity domains, subdomains, subdirectories, query strings, wierd and untraceable forms values. They are all the same to us, except that if they look out-of-the-ordinary, we wonder what sort of sleazy scam the submitter is running.

Just submit the main URL in the single most appropriate, non-country-specific category.

If the site is available in languages other than English, then it may also be submitted to the correct language in http://dmoz.org/World/

It's editor discretion as to whether it goes in more than one categroy.

Other than World, you should only suggest it to the one best category however.

The content and contact details are going to be unique for each country but due to complexity of registering domain for each country we have deciced to focus on .com and use variations ".it.com" through dns managment. In addition each site will be talioured for each country in a way that is unique.

Unless you can tell us the URL, then you're going to have to take the generic advice -- from us or from the submittal policy, it will be the same: one site, one listing.

And if you tell us the URL, it will probably still be the same: deeplinking is "in exceptional cases" (or in exceptional categories.) But someone will probably be willing to double-check for you.

One url one listing

It's a small distinction but an important one: one site, one listing. If you have 15 urls but they are all the same site you will only be listed once.

Just thought I'd point that out. ;)

(Of course, there are exceptions as already pointed out, but without knowing the URL, yada yada, dontcha know... :D )
