I am so confused, I wanted to get my Web Site and my partners Web Site listed for a long time now. I've been told by so many people it was the one directory you had to get on. If Google respected you guys so much before, why have they dropped you like a stone now? Google should appreciate all the hard work humans have put into the curation of sites like Dmoz. With Google Adwords being their cash cow, they are not interested in anything which could be seen as quality standard which is not their own? I don't know, we needed sites like Dmoz, to standard up with quality so it's not always just about quantity. Dmoz was a shining reminded of the early days of the internet, and should have remained? My partner and I can remember the very early days of dial-up. He's a little older than me, but 56K moderns had a heart warming sound to it, of busted up technology. That said, way before the days of broadband, sites like Dmoz helped us find great content. There is still a place for this on the internet, I guess maybe some innovation from Dmoz was required in the end.

What plans do you guys have now? Maybe you should of diversified earlier, like Best of the Web Looks like they have tried to tackle this problem, with a long-term view of the future.

All the best guys,

DMOZ was owned by AOL and it was AOL who closed it.
We are hoping to create a brand new site, one that uses the .rdf files from the old one in the future.

The google stone dropping thing happened years ago. I would think it was more to do with them than it was to do with us. But I agree with you about Adwords. As time goes on google's results become more and more meaningless. Have you seen the latest 'free' results? Wikipedia pages! (try a one word search term). If surfers wanted to read that encyclopaedia they would surely do just that.

I don't use google anymore unless I'm looking for verbatim transcript. The other search engines bring fresh results, but not without their fair share of problems, like broken links.

You'll get notification, but the new directory will not be at dmoztools.net, which is a static copy of the old directory.

So we are not allowed to do listing of new sites in dmoztools.net? As i wan to register my new site (<url removed>) in list of dmoz. Earlier I use to register my new sites with dmoz on priority, but now i am not able to find add site option.

As has been stated before there is no option to suggest a website .
When this option will be available again is not kn own, but it will be announced in this forum.

> register my new sites with dmoz on priority
there never has been an option to register with "priority" on dmoz
and there will be no such option on the new directory
