Newbie: Why do DMOZ and Google's Dir. not match?

Why do Google and other directories that get "feed" from DMOZ not match the DMOZ directory exactly?

Also, some of my competitor's sites have some 200 or so backlinks from open directories, but my site just has DMOZ as an open directory backlink - why isn't mine in as my directories?
