We submitted our site, www.discountednewspapers.com to the DMOZ about a year ago to the Shopping>Publications>Magazines category. This is obviously not the right place for our site, since we sell newspapers and not magazines, but there is no Shopping>Publications>Newspapers category. What should we do? Just give up on the idea of being listed, or is there a way to have a new category created so our submission will be relevant? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll need a great deal more unique content before the problem of categorizing it could arise.

Can you clarify your answer please? I was hoping to learn where our site should be submitted. Your answer implies our site would not be able to get added to the directory in any category. Since we are the only website on the internet selling subscriptions for local delivery of the top 100 newspapers in the country, I am quite certain our content is unique. After further researching the websites that are currently listed in the Shopping>Publications>Magazines(49 sites) category and the Shopping>Publications>Newsletters(2 sites) category, I am still uncertain where our site belongs.

Please see the section of our editing guidelines about affiliate content and how we do not list sites that consist mainly of affiliate content. It does not mean your site is bad - we just do not list sites that consist mainly of affiliate content.

To answer your question - the site in question is not listable in the directory as per our editing guidelines, please do not submit it again. Thanks and have a great day.

No country category exists

I would like to submit my URL under the category Health:Medicine:Surgery:Cosmetic & Plastic: Surgeons & Clinics: Philippines
but there is no Philippines category. There are many qualified Cosmetic Plastic Surgeons in the Philippines and surgery costs are very reasonable here so I believe my site would be useful to people considering cosmetic surgery. is it possible to add the Philippines category? Thanks

In general, we add categories when we have enough listings to justify their existence. We seldom create categories for a single site.

I would suggest you submit to http://dmoz.org/Health/Medicine/Surgery/Cosmetic_and_Plastic/Surgeons_and_Clinics/ , but I note that the "Suggest URL" link is turned off there, as well as in http://dmoz.org/Health/Medicine/Surgery/Cosmetic_and_Plastic/ . I expect that it is because of a large volume of spam submissions. (I would also have suggested submitting some of those many other Philippine plastic surgery clinics, virtually guaranteeing a new category.)

Perhaps one of our senior editors can shed a bit of light here. I will follow up internally.

Addition of new category

Thanks very much for your alacrity! I will submit as soon as the category is available. Thanks again!
