I have just made a submission, however there are no editors for the 4 levels below the main level that my page would inhabit.
I know the DMOZ editors are very busy people, and no more site checks are being done.
However is there any information that can be shared on these "orphan" catagories? Or would that happen to be found on another website? Like one of those fund raiser gauges, you know the kind that fill up the more raffle tickets are sold. Is there anything like that, either internally or externally, used to let the editors at large know they should spend some time with a particular catagory? I think something like this would be a good idea. It would show how active certain cats are, and maybe give us an idea when there is some work being done on that cat, in a strictly volunteer work kind of way.

Yeah, it is called personal choice ;)

Seriously though, any editor can look at any category to see if the links are up to snuff, how many sites are currently in unreviewed, when the last edit was made there, etc. That doesn't mean that they would then be required to "act" in any manner based on that knowledge though. If they were interested in working there and had permissions allowing them to do so, then they would be free to work on that category, any other category they have access too, or to go out and play with their kids instead :D

What lmocr said is true, there are no orphaned categories. Just categories with fewer editors interested at the moment to work on them. By the same token, there are no owned categories either. A category can have a "named" editor who rarely visits it, choosing to edit elsewhere but have 1-100+ other editors who are not named, but edit there daily.

Hope that helps to clarify even more.
