Edit: I meant 'no feedback'

I tried a couple of times to submit a site in 2008 that does not fit into the dmoz.org catagories, and I have had no response. The site contains some of my intellectual property and I wanted a public record to make sure dodgy university professors do not copy it.

You had a response each time you suggested it. The final screen said:

Submission Received

Your site submission has been received.

An editor will review your submission for inclusion in the directory.

Once your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, AltaVista, HotBot, Google, Lycos, Netscape Search, etc. We make updates of the data available weekly, but each partner has their own update schedule.

Consider becoming an editor and maintaining a category. The Open Directory has a comprehensive set of tools for adding, deleting, and updating links in seconds. For just a few minutes of your time you can help make the Web a better place, and be recognized as an expert on your chosen topic.

In practice, elapsed times for a website to be listed here can range from a few days to a few years (if it's listable). There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

Sounds like you're looking for something from us that we don't provide. Nothing about suggesting your site to the ODP or even being listed in the ODP will provide you with any kind of a public record that will help you if someone copies your content.

Those darn university professors: always stealing ideas and fencing them to impressionable kids. There oughta be a law...professors should only be allowed to teach in some dead language: Latin or Sanscrit.

Don't even get me started on libraries.
