Thanks for providing this forum we didn't know where else to turn.

We are a non-profit, public service, security alarm forum and we believe that we offer unique content. Like the DMOZ (but on a much smaller scale) we are staffed entirely by volunteers.

We submitted our site to the Open directory Project approximately 3 years ago and it has never been listed.

Choosing the correct category was difficult; however, we did our best to get as close to the correct area as possible.

We resubmitted after a year but, to the best of our knowledge we didn't spam the directory. We did employ the services of an SEO firm but as far as we know they didn't submit to ODP.

We don't know what to do. We don't know if we did something wrong, if an editor decided for some reason that they didn't want us listed, if we should re-submit or if a resubmission would be considered spamming.

We would be grateful for any assistance or advice.

Thank you for taking the time to consider our dilemma.

Most outstanding listing suggestions were lost in a crash about two years ago.

We advise people who haven't re-suggested their website since December 2006 to do so now.

People who have re-suggested their website since December 2006, are advised to do nothing.

Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest a website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one - neatly pushing it to the bottom of the pile if an editor sorts it into suggestion date order.

Thank you for your response.

As best I can recall, our resubmission probably occurred at about the time you indicated for the crash.

I think we will just go ahead and resubmit. I doubt that it would look like spamming and removing the uncertainty regarding whether or not our submission is pending is worth the risk of going to the bottom of the stack.

I'm not sure but I think that there are a couple of new categories offered since our last submission so we will resubmit under Home: Home Improvement: Safety and Security which seems the best all-around fit.

The volunteers on our site have helped many (tens-of- thousands) over the years, many times without a "Thank You" so let me say again that I sincerely appreciate getting your response. Your information was helpful but more importantly, it is comforting to know that there is indeed someone at the OPD that is accessible and willing to answer our questions.

Thanks again. :)
