Hi all. I was wondering if you could enlighten me as to the reason my site was removed from this section: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_...tah/Localities/S/Sandy/Recreation_and_Sports/

I just barely got into the ODP and don't have a clue as to why I would be removed so quickly. I haven't even updated the site once since inclusion. In any case, your response would be greatly appreciated.

Could you give us one good reason why we should list this site.
In Regional we only list sites that have a physical location people can visit.

If you re-open you can always resubmit the site to wherever you move to, but we would probably want to verify it independently - the club seems to attract quite a bit of media attention so that shouldn't be a problem. Best of luck finding a new location.

We will be re-opening in Salt Lake City and are working with local authorities to do so in a timely manner. In the meantime, is there anyway to simply be listed in the "Utah" section, as that's the only clientelle we would deal with anyway?

Thanks again

"Opening Soon" does not a listable website make.

And as for the "one good reason" to list our site, we keep all of our customers up to date on what is going on with the club, and we keep whoever visits our site up to date on all of the local news regarding poker laws and events in Utah. Even if our club is shut down, which is only temporary, we still are able to provide a valuable informational source for those wondering about Utah's whacky gambling laws. If that's not good enough, that's cool. When we re-open I'll simply resubmit, because as you said, it wont be too difficult to verify due to the amount of press we receive whenever we do anything.

Thanks again.

Right on...as soon as we get our doors open once again I'll resubmit. Should be within 2 weeks or so. Thanks.

No problem. Hope it goes better for you in the new location. I normally avoid gambling sites like the plague but I have read yours and some of the publicity surrounding what you are trying to do. And it does make a (pleasant) change to see something completely different. But we are normally looking for a bricks and mortar presence to list a business in Regional. At the moment we can't place you properly in your locality.

we still are able to provide a valuable informational source for those wondering about Utah's whacky gambling laws. If that's not good enough, that's cool.
It isn't good enough for Regional but provided that content is the most comprehensive resource on Utah's wacky gambling laws there may be a home for it somewhere under http://dmoz.org/Games/Gambling/Poker/ but remember that (except online operators) we are looking for information not services there so that has to be the focus of any submission there. It is only my personal opinion (as a gambling site avoidance expert) but my interest was held by the site despite the premises being closed - I found the story of the club and all the politicing fascinating. But is all that documented on the site or did I get it by digging out other info from the Internet (I can't remember) - if the latter do yourself a favour and start adding it to the primary source, your site. It's almost as good as a TV soap! ;)

Thanks for the kind words One Eye. Believe me, the Soap Opera is about to get even more intense as our hero's take on the State of Utah's most powerful university. The one good thing that has come out of our story is the fact that we have risen awareness to the rediculous laws that the state we live in has.

You might have seen the info in the news section of our website, but there are plenty of write-ups about us in newspapers across the nation. So either way that you found out about our plight wouldn't surprise me. You brought up a good point though, I am going to have our news section placed on our home page until we re-open for business. That way we know people will have a chance at seeing the garbage we have had to put up with in order to provide entertainment in the form of poker to the mo's of Utah.

By the way One Eye...you wouldn't be an Izzard fan would you? Point De Riz... :)

I have been known to allow the odd chuckle to escape

I come from a family of card players (for pennies and no poker though) - as soon as you could hold them in your hand and empty your pocket money onto the table you were dealt in and no favours given or expected. Looks like we would all have been locked up and the key thrown away over in your neck of the woods.

Keeping within the topic though, drifting off being frowned upon here, the more information, be it about the gambling laws, fact and comment, or about your own plight, the soap opera, that you put on the site the better from our point of view - unique content is king and you can't get much more unique than the trials and tribulations of a would-be gambling joint in Utah it seems. When the movie comes out be sure to submit the IMDB page for it!
