ODP and Google PageRank

Hy there,

not sure it is the right place to post this question ....but let's say it's general about DMOZ..(and google)
:/images/dmoz/purplegrin.gif

In your mind what can change the PR between two categories ???

The number of categorie that link to it ?
The age of a categorie (newer it is, the lowest PR it has...)

I'm just list in odp, and discover the page where i am has a very low PR....so, wondering now ...

Most likely this is not the right place for this, as the question is rather about Google than about the ODP. Anyway, if you really want to know what makes Google's PageRank tick, here's a starting point:

Optimizing the PR of specific DMOZ categories is, to put it lightly, not one of our design goals, nor is it a criterion for changing the directory taxonomy.

Outside links to dmoz.org pages can raise their page-rank, but if we think a category has the wrong name or location, we'll change it without being concerned about how many outside links are lost.

Usability is a major criterion, and internal links between ODP categories are Good Things. We need lots more of them: in fact, I need to go add some more today. But adding them to manipulate page rank would, I believe, be considered abusive editing.

At first, thanks for yours anwsers.

I appreciate your documentation, and note the anwser of hutcheson :

I do understand, editors have enough job in ODP, not to add some more from outside, trying to change the PR in the pages of the cat they are working on....by building links from outside.

My question was more general, in what I undertand of PR, the ODP has a very special status.

So, after reading your biblio :/images/dmoz/purplegrin.gif , I can now say that ODP PR is just boost, after what, it's just like normal sites.

Externals links can improve PR, internals links too.

The cat where my site is, is a very small one... with just one internal link.

thanks to you for editing and answering here.

Adding sites to a page doesn't improve the PR value for each site that the page links to. It reduces it. Just thought I'd mention that /images/icons/smile.gif
