Why not the Editor status check be made open to all. The Editors can better deal more with adding and editing the directory.

Sorry -- I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Open in which way?

There can be a URL which allows people to enter their username to check their application status. I dont know why you are puttin editors for this purpose.

Ah, OK. Well, checking editor applications isn't that much of a chore, there aren't that many people asking about their status here every day and there are enough meta editors to check. (Only meta and catmod editors are able to check status for editor applications, so it's not a problem for other editors anyway.)

Implementing that kind of technical solution is something that would only benefit a few people (those who for some reason have to wait longer than usual to get an answer to their application). On the other hand, it would not benefit the directory, not harm it but not help it either -- and so I don't see the tech staff devoting time to that. Their time is severely limited as it is.

ah, I thought there are too many people enquiring about this. Another question, being a developer myself, I would like to work something for Dmoz. Is there any development work where I can join? Coz, I had a bad luck always on trying to become editor.

The sourcecode of ODP is owned by AOL and only changed by AOL-staff. Regarding additional tools for editors, we currently have enough available development capacity among our editors.

Anyway: Thanks for your offer.

:(
I am a regular forum poster and Wiki editor. I do a lot of stuff related to software development and game development. 8 months ago, I heard about Dmoz when I was promoting my company's website. I tried getting my site listed, meanwhile got impressed on becoming an editor. But couldnt do it till now. Though I have a lot to do with my own company, I couldnt keep off from working for Wiki, Dmoz and other related places. Is there anything I can do for Dmoz untill I become an Editor? Don't say you can submit new sites, which I already do everyday.

You could report any quality control issues in the QC thread and assist with cleaning up the directory in that way.

Maybe you can use that excess capacity to speed up site reviews. (could not find suitable smiley)
