ODP results still show after source removal

I'm involved in a civil privacy dispute which is going to court soon, and to avoid expected harassment I have scrubbed my personal information from many websites and had this information removed from search engine cache where possible.

But I observed that my personal information is still being displayed in search results on Live.com. I am told that this content is actually coming from ODP, which is used to supplement search engine results.

Again to be clear, the original content has been deleted from the webpages and Live.com cache has been deleted for these items, but I still see my name in Live.com search results, and the Live.com team has informed me this is ODP data I'm seeing.

I thought I'd done everything required to protect my privacy and discourage the stalker in question, but I'm at a loss as how my info can be removed from ODP as well. Is there something I can do about that?

thanks for any light anyone can shine on this question.

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is:

Go to the cateogry where your site is listed and do an update request -- in the body of the request ask that personal informatin be removed as it is no longer on the website.

A number of outcomes are possible:

we may change the title
we may change the description
we may choose to no longer list the site
we may choose to do nothing -- not likely, but if the personal information is still on the website and it is essential to our listing requirements (say you are a real estate agent) then we may choose not to honor the request.

thanks for the response!

sorry for being a little confused about this process, but I tried to find the entry at dmoz.org but haven't been able to find it.

Here's the URL of the page that ODP has cached info from (page still exists, but my info has been scrubbed from that page)

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/midiguitar/messages/19872

On a hunch, I went to yahoo groups to see how they placed this group, but the equivalent hierarchy doesn't exist at dmoz.org

DMOZ: Top: Arts: Music: Instruments: Stringed
Yahoo: Music/Instruments/Stringed_Instruments/Guitar

Am I barking up the wrong tree here? Thanks for any tips how to find this item at dmoz.org

ok, maybe I've got a misunderstanding here, but I'm talking about a Yahoo groups page website that was modified 6-8 weeks ago. I search Live.com and I see information in the search results summary from the old page content.

Live.com has removed their cache, and they tell me what I am seeing is coming from ODP. I'm hearing here that is not necessarily the case.

Somebody has my personal info cached, its not being served up live anymore.

<me scratches head />

There are only 3 places in dmoz that have any information.
1. The url of the page/site linked to
2. The Title of the page/site linked to
3. The Description of the page/site

In any of these cases you can find if the site is listed with that information in it by performing a search on dmoz.

For instance a search on examplename will show listings that have examplename in any of the 3 positions

examplename.com Fred examplename - Information on the examplename family.

I suspect Live.com has given you some misinformation. Unless a site is listed in the ODP with your name in the title or description, any personal information that is turning up in Live.com is not coming from the ODP. As far as I can tell, the midiguitar Yahoo group itself isn't even listed in the ODP, let alone a post containing your personal details.

[edited to add: Live.com uses MSN cached pages in its search results. So any lingering information is definitely their fault, not the ODP's]

Have you tried searching on the username you are using here - it shows a few places that are associated with a name (yours or not I have no way of knowing).

yes, perhaps the info I got wasn't correct. It doesn't seem to be correlating with what I'm learning here and discovering on my own. Well, at least I learned that ODP exists!

Thanks everybody for the helpful feedback!
