It seem's sad that so many people are so desperate to have their site submitted to this directory. Its almost like trying to get your child into the right school. I think it would be nice if the editors and moderators would show a bit of mercy and let those sad and desperate individuals an opportunity to have their site submitted.

If this statement has moved you and you feel that your conscience wouldn't allow you to see us suffer no more. Then please, please, please for the sake of humanity submit all our sites. ;)

My conscience wouldn't allow your posts to appear in this forum, as they seem to serve only to confuse readers.

Fortunately for you, I'm not in charge.

It is the humanity within us that allows us the freedom to reject sites.

You see, we have tremendous compassion for the people who use (surf) or directory. We care about them deeply, much as a parent cares about their child.

And just as good parents don't give their children razor blades or high explosives, we don't give our children (surfers) spammy sites, sites with no content, doorways, gateways, cloaked sites, redirects and other non-friendly things. We've talked to surfers, and we feel their pain!

Now what could be more compassionate than that?

Thank you for caring.

But only the best get listed...

Just a thought but why don't you return to your (remaining) thread in the status request forum and actually ask for a status check. Read the posting guidelines, read the FAQ section on this site, read the guidelines on the main DMOZ site, do it properly, no fuss, no timewasting, no irrelevant pleas, no multiple threads. It is simple, it is childsplay.

Read the other threads, see how others do it easily and with no fuss. Look at editor comments to help you understand the processes. Try and understand what we are and what we are not. We aren't a listing service for webmasters or a tool for Google page rank purposes, we are a global volunteer project cataloging the best informational resources on the Internet and we just happen to accept suggestions from the public to assist us in that.

There are also plenty of directories out there that cater specifically for the sad and desperate, some are free, some charge, some process your request in 24 hours, others take a lifetime.

There is no other way. Did you apply for an English category? Maybe your English wasn't good enough. (That's why I usually don't edit English categories.) Perhaps an application for a category in your mother tongue (is it Hindi?) would be more successful.

The statement above is deeply offensive. I would be grateful if you would retract the statement and apologise. I will lodge a complaint if you don't!

Paul, before arraying yourself in umbrage you should consult an English dictionary to learn the discover the difference between Hinduism (a religion) and Hindi (a language). You might also check out the grammatical difference between the English plural form and the English singular possessive form.

When you've got a grasp of the language at an eight-year-old literal level, it will be time to begin to study the nuances through which refined insults might have been given. But even then, you'd find no insult here: just an honest effort to find out where an enthusiastic volunteer might find his best chance of succeeding in a project where standards are high for everyone. (As uzs980 pointed out, in his nearly impeccable English, your best chance is in the language you know best.)

bollocks

Your talking a load of bollocks. This is an open forum to discuss genuine issue's regarding submissions to the open directory. I would of thought that as an intelligent person you would see that insulting people is not the answer. There seems to be to many 'clever dicks' who have let the power of moderating and editing this directory go their heads.

This is an open forum. Spammers can and do participate.
I see that appears to have been a forecast of what has happened.

Paul, get a grip on reality, this is a private forum run by volunteers, all the people who you are upset at are volunteer administraters of this forum, they are the ones you have to complain to, so it's kind of fruitless. Now as for me, I'm just a lowly editor, so you can of course complain to them about my post if it upsets you.

uzs980 will simply trying to be helpful, and pointing out his own native language was not English.

One of the reasons our valued World editors are valued ... is their enthusiastic support for building up the World communities. As you see happening here.

I just thought that the remarks made were inappropriate!
But does the person the remarks addressed agree? You obviously read something into the remarks that neither I nor - judging from the comments - anybody else can see there...
