i heard from lot of people that Dmoz is an open source directory, but starngely what i see is that in no manner its open source. they list sites only what they think is good for their interest even the sites which complies with a category doesnt get to listed there just because of bias or some unkown reason. from all of the people out there they know what an open source means, and Dmoz is in no way comply with that.

i hope to see them amending their way of working or else they can see them going down in future.

Instead of listening to people who don't know what they are talking about you better read about DMOZ directly at the source
http://dmoz.org/about.html
The Open Directory was founded in the spirit of the Open Source movement,
also read
http://dmoz.org/socialcontract.html
http://dmoz.org/add.html
http://dmoz.org/guidelines/

The Open only means that, like Open Source Software, anyone is allowed to use our product (the directory). See http://editors.dmoz.org/license.html
Open certainly does not mean that every site will be listed.
http://dmoz.org/add.html said:
Please recognize that making the ODP a useful resource requires us to exercise broad editorial discretion in determining the content and structure of the directory. That discretion extends (but is not limited) to what sites to include, where in the directory sites are placed, whether and when to include more than one link to a site, when deep linking is appropriate, and the content of the title and description of the site. In addition, a site's placement in the directory is subject to change or deletion at any time at our sole discretion.

Open Source meaning

well i've not seen a single directory on the internet which provides access to information only to paid users, although they do have listing's paid. Good example is Yahoo! everyone can access that but they do have paid listings.
Now this means everyone is open source on internet.
All you were trying to do was mutilate the word open source according to your say.

Well, color me confused. How can you say we're mutiliating the words "open source" when we don't even use them?

Want to publish a copy of the Yahoo directory? Good luck, and see you in court.

Want to publish a copy of our directory? Go ahead on, with full permission as long as you use correct attribution.

I do suggest you read the links pvgool provided. They'll clear up a lot of misinformation you seem to have received.

why would anyone want to create a copy of another directory. there is no use. a total loser will only do that.
It doesnt give the appropriate meaning to open source.
One more thing about the working of various volunteer editors.
i find many posts where people are crying that the category they are trying to submit their site to is controlled by some biased editor happened to be some webmaster promoting his own sites for his own good and leaving other sites behind.
Now what do you call it Open source.

We don't. I'm running out of ways to say that, and can't figure out what's making it so hard for you to understand it.

I repeat again, please read the links pvgool so kindly provided. I'm going to close this thread for a few hours to give you a chance to do so.

Well, it seems you preferred to spend your time spamming rather than reading. I won't be reopening this thread after all.
