Over 2 years and still waiting

In February/March of 2004, I submitted the site expertgenealogy.com
At that time, I could get submission status information and I was told a year later that the submission was still in the queue. Since then submission status information has ended and now more than 2 years have passed. The DMOZ submission pages says that submissions take about 2 weeks, so I submitted the site again. What else is one to do after 2 years and no status information. I now read in these forums that this resubmission has probably reset the timer. Because of the long delays and lack of status information, the submission process appears to me to be a hopeless exercise.
I may have made some mistake or did not read the submission instructions with enough care, but it appears that one must wait years to get no information.

No, you don't have to wait at all. You can get no information, instantly, from any number of sources.

And yes, if you're expecting the submission process to be a way of getting someone else to do something, it's hopeless. If you're expecting the process to be a way of offering information, freely, to someone else ... then it may be useful.

May. Probably will, eventually. Someday, someone interested in genealogy will be looking for websites, and your information may help them.

That's the way ALL the web works. You put information online in hopes that someone else may find it useful. But you can't know who, or when, until they visit.

Actually the submission instructions read:
Depending on factors such as the volume of submissions to the particular category, it may take several weeks or more before your submission is reviewed.
and depending on which category you suggested the URL to, it is quite probable that the "or more" will apply.

Resuggesting the site once, in most cases will cause little harm. If an editor did choose to review by suggestion date (some do, some don't) then yes they would most likely skip over the new suggestion for older ones. As for what else to do, there really isn't anything. You have done all you can to help an editor find your site. Eventually someone will take a look, but there is no way to predict when that will be. In the meantime, adding useful content for your visitors and applying all other promotional strategies is all you need/should be doing.

I know it isn't exactly what you wanted to hear, but hopefully it will help at least in a small part.
