I think I submitted my professional site back in 2005...

Seeing I was not there in 2009 I tried again...

Hmm... Where should I submit?

I submitted it to the same place as every other photographer I know in the same line of work I'm in so my guess was that was where I belonged.

 Perhaps I'm stupid

This is me: <URL Removed>

Could you tell me how and where I belong?

We have 3 photography areas in the English language section of the directory.

http://www.dmoz.org/Arts/Photography/Photographers/ - This category is for sites where amateur or professional photographers showcase their works, or for sites about photographers (online exhibitions).

http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Photographers/ - This category is for photographers whose web sites focus on photographic services they can provide to clients.

http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Visual_Arts/Photography/ - This category is for photographers, photography studios and galleries whose sites focus on selling prints online.

The best thing to do is suggest your site to the category you think is the best fit, an editor can always move the site if it would be better suited elsewhere.

We don't have a specific time line for inclusion, since all editors are volunteers, there is no way to predict how long it will take for a site to be reviewed.

Notice that if you offer your services in some physical location you can also suggest your site to the city in which you are located in our Regional category structure.
http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/
Such a second suggestion is allowed. But be sure to drill down as far as possible to the city you are located in.

Suggest your site to the locality not to the county - unless you have studios in several localities in the county. Within Regional, a street address on the website helps credibility.

So you are saying I should resubmit it?

As to a street address:
Hmm... Mostly I'm an Event and Location photographer my physical address is on my site but not all over it (on an "about" page)... How hard do the editors generally look?

Oh... And how do we go about putting Ventura (San Buenaventura) on the map? Seems like we've been gypped... Google spelling check desent know we are here...

As I said before. If you / your campany offer a service in (or from) a physical location you may suggest the website twice. Once to a topic (which you claim to already have done) and once to Regional (the location/city in which you/your business is located)

That is a normal place to put your addres.
We look at the whole website.

When we have enough websites a category will be created.
To me it seems that we already have Ventura http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Localities/V/Ventura/
Just not a Photography subcat. That means you should suggest a photography website into Ventura/Arts_and_Entertainment/

You're welcome to check back whenever you wish, for whatever reason you wish.

It won't hurt us. It might help, if you decide to volunteer some of your own time and effort to the directory.

But don't get the idea that "the reason that pot's not hot is because I haven't been watching intently enough."

Hmm you sound a little I don't know... Bitter perhaps?

Please don't think I don't appreciate what you do here.

As to volunteering...

Tell me about it, perhaps I could.

I don't have a lot of free time however I do end up sitting at this box from time to time waiting for something to happen

Are you the sort of person who opens a browser window to while away the time?

Is there a particular kind of site that you like to browse through?

Can you write an objective description (focusing on what you see, not what you think or feel about it)?

Do you think you could spend half an hour a week or so that way?

If the answers are generally positive, then try it out. Pick a small category related to that topic. See if you can find three good sites that belong better in that category than in any other. See if you can describe (concisely and clearly) what kind of content is at each site (and nowhere else on the web).

That--and a list of the sites you're connected with--and you have an application/offer to edit that category.

Once accepted, you can edit any time that's convenient to you. You can look for sites however you think you can find good sites. You can make suggestions to other categories (and apply to edit them, if you find out you're enjoying it.) There are always people willing to help you pick up the skills.

Hmm.

Well I have been a professional photographer / photojournalist (of marginal fame) since 1984 so that's pretty much what I know...

Link me to that application and I'll take a look.
