Re: Photo site submission

As stated in the guidelines, please provide a clickable link to the category where you submitted to. Thanks.

[edited to add] ODP doesn't send notices that a site has been listed or rejected, so that is not an indication of anything.

Re: Photo site submission

Your site is waiting in that category with a submission date of 11/Aug/2003. The number of sites waiting is quite large, I would suggest giving it three more months and returning to request a status. Also, do not resubmit (based on your description--which includes a statement that you've already waited three months--it appears this one is a resubmit) again as you rewrite over the top of the old submission and if an editor were to sort by date (they don't have to) you would esentially be sending your submission to the end of the line each time you resubmit. Three months, unfortunately, is not necessarily a long time to wait. Editors are volunteer, and listings are never guaranteed.

When you return to request another update, please bookmark and use this same thread. Thanks.

Re: Photo site submission

Thank you,
Bad news are better then nothing...

I've been read so many guidelines after I submitted... All of them tends to give an "advice" - Wait 5-6 weeks, then resubmit... Well... At least I aware now...

Thank you again,
Joseph-

Re: Photo site submission

Sorry to say, but no change yet.

For the advice: It may sound stupid, but the best advice is to just be patient and relax. The site will eventually be reviewed, there is no way to influence this.

Re: Photo site submission - more then 6 months pas

Hi guys, thanks for your help.

Can you please follow up, what is going on with my web site?

Another 2 months passed - still nothing.

I am really curious... I don't want to say that my site better or more informative then others listed in the directory (my site obviously not listed).... But just take a look and judge... www.iqphoto.com

I spent months to work on it, add and improve content. I receive lots of emails from people who found my site very helpful. I am not talking about my clients now....

Lately I have a feeling that editor there is no more exist... I tried to contact this guy quite a few times, but nothing happened.

Lets say I did a horrible mistake somewhere in my site.
I am not a professional designer, I just have a basic idea what and how should it work.

May be someone can point me my mistake...Or what should I do?

When I send an emails to the Directory, I feel like throwing sealed bottle with the letter into the ocean, hoping someone will eventually read it...

Is that the way the Directory should work?

Thank you for your time helping people.

Joseph-

Sorry to say your submission is still waiting for review in the category with over 100 other site suggestions. Comment all you like on how long it takes but it is still going to take as long as it takes. We are all volunteers here and you are just going to have to be patient. It could be another year. It could be tomorrow. There is no way to tell.

Good Luck.

Since april there are 380 sites in the category. Number actually dropped from 387.

You say there are appx 100 sites in "pending".... Why for the six months no change in the directory. May be the editor is not there anymore?

Well I guess the people that like photo sites must be out taking photos or surfing the net and not applying or editing the photo site categories.

It really does not matter if an editor assigned to a category is very active or marginally active -- we cherish each and every edit.

In addition, there are more than 200 editors who can edit in any part of the directory -- and these editors are likely to pop up anywhere, based on where they believe the directory most needs their assistance.

The most likely reason that the number of sites in that caterory wend down is because out automated link checker has been at work identifyng bad links. When that occurs we make it a very high priority to elminate those bad links.

Finally, in the grand scheme of things, 100 site suggestions awaiting consideration is not very many. If you look through the other posting you see that there are any number of categories that have in excess of 300 sites awaiting consideration.

We like to tell peope that a site will be considered in as little as two minutes and as much as two years. There is, once we have confirmed thast your suggestion is in the "pool" nothing else that you can do. Feel free to check back with us in two months (use this same thread -- bookmark it for quick reference) and we'll let you know the size of the pool if it has not been reviewed by an editor at that time.

When I send an emails to the Directory, I feel like throwing sealed bottle with the letter into the ocean, hoping someone will eventually read it...

That is why we set up this forum. The ugly fact of the matter is that many editors do not reply to e-mails from submitters, because there are so many documented cases of submitters getting very, very nasty when they don't get the answer they want.

By the way, if it is any consolation, I get replies back less than ten percent of the time when I query submitters by e-mail. Go figure! They take the time to submit their web site, and when they get an e-mail asking them to clarify something so that their site can be published, they can't bother to respond.

So it works both ways.

Re: Photo site submission - almost an year ago...

Hi,

Any updates? I feel really frustrated. Is something wrong with my site? They added 60-80 new vendors to the category... Some of them have like 5% of what my site has to offer...

Please help...

Don't be frustrated: you actually have reason to hope. There is an active editor in the category!

If they don't drop dead suddenly, more sites may get added, and soon -- and if yours is one of the better ones ...

No, not at all like a cold war, however most editors do not reply to e-mails from submitters, since many submitters have turned nasty when they don't get the answer they want. In addition, the existance of this venue, makes submitter-to-editor discussions unnecessary.

When seen from the editor perspective, it is quite simple: most of the volunteer editors signed on to build a directory, not to correspond with submitters. Most of us get enough e-mail at work to last a lifetime :D so e-mail from submitters is cheerfully ignored. [I'd gladly answer submitter e-mail if someone could show me how to ignore the e-mail at work without getting fired.]

The site is waiting for review in that category. Please don't submit it again - that won't make the review happen faster. Thanks!
