Re: pickard

Nothing in the queue for that category so you might want to apply again. I don't know why the application was rejected, but you should have received a rejection notice.

You wouldn't have known this when applying but that might not be the best category for a new editor as there are a lot of sites waiting for review there and might require an editor with some experience. Also travel related categories are typically spam magnets so might not be the best for a new editor.

Just as I was about to apply for a travel-related category, I read donaldb's comment above. I guess I'll have to mull that one over a bit some more.

Actually, the real reason I am posting is to inquire about the likelihood of a new editor getting privileges for a category in a country other than the one a person lives in. That is, should I start somewhere else and later on progress in the direction I was originally interested in or, instead, try for what interests me in the first place? I could always come up with secondary locations/interests for editing purposes if I must, but if it's not necessary then I'd rather not. Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Re: pickard

Becoming an editor for a category outside the country where you live isn't even an issue that I could imagine anyone caring about at all. We have editors who live in France who edit categories in Canada. I myself edit in the Polar_Regions category, and I certainly can't imagine living there

It really all depends on the size of the category, the type of category, and the sites that you choose for the category that you are interested in. If you have a knowledge of the area, then make sure that is apparent. Make sure that you describe the sites correctly.

On the other hand it's always good to start off small. If you find something that interests you in a smaller category you will be able to learn the ropes without doing any damage (or at least minimal damage ), and then slowly move into the other areas where your interests lie. I think people are always surprised where they end up after they get started.

I think that if you read the first thread in this forum, titled FAQ and General Advice, you'll have a much better idea of what we're looking for.

Re: pickard

Just to second what donaldb said, I started out editing in an Australian category and I'm about as far from Australia as one can physically get.

Re: pickard

donaldb,

Just to say thank you for looking up the status of my application.
