Hello there

I'd be really grateful if someone could tell if there are any certain guidelines regulating submission of a law related sites, same as we have for real estate sites.

I'd appreciate a link if such a thing exists in ODP or just quick confirmation if there is no guidelines exclusively for legal sites.

Thanks in advance.

Hi motsa

Just wanted to know if there are any specific requirements to the content of a legagl site, like the ones for real estate. For example should the site necessarily list certificates of a lawyer, legal address, etc, etc.

I'd also appreciate if you could drop me a link to the section where general guidelines are, as the one i found in this forum wouldn't open.

Thanks

There is a thread in the internal forum entitle "Lawyers like Real Estate Agents", but I don't know of any specific requirements for lawyers which do not apply to all businesses in Regional/.../Business_and_Economy/Legal_Services. (The requirement to have a real address does apply to almost all businesses in Regional. I don't think a law firm would be an exception.)

Editorial judgment applies. Any real company has a presumptive right to create a listable website -- they have uniquely authoritative information about their goods, services, and prices. But not all companies create such a site. "Business-card sites" and "template sites" (that is, containing business-card information sprinkled over a large collection of non-unique information) are specifically not listable. You need more information (hype is not an acceptable substitute.)

Example: "I'll go the second mile to get the best deal for you" -- pure sludge. "Practicing law for 7 years in Goose Pond, Arkansas" -- arguably information, although not perhaps all that relevant. "Member of Slightly Silly Party, First Church of Chaotic Nonsense, and Goose Pond Chamber of Commerce" -- information... We aren't all that particular about the KIND of unique information -- if we can conceive of some prospective client who might care whether or not you're a believing Chaotist, then that counts.

Remember that these regional editors are genuinely concerned to build up information on the local communities. Give them half an excuse to list the site, and wait patiently for them to get back to that community (many communities are edited by higher-level-category editors who cycle through the little categories in some sort of semi-random pattern).

Thanks for information guys, now its quite clear about the content side, though I'm really not sure about where I should submit the site. I'd be really grateful if you could let me know your point.

So far i see that i have to decide between

1) based on the office location
http://dmoz.org/Society/Law/Service...w/North_America/United_States/Washington,_DC/

2) based on scale of operation
http://dmoz.org/Society/Law/Service...nd_Corporate_Law/North_America/United_States/

The site in question (www.dsnead.com) is run by a councelor based in Washington D.C. however his services are not tied to any regeon as he specializes in legal support of online IT businesses nationwide (and even worldwide), so basicaly the 2nd category seems to be the right choice.

Could you please tell if i'm on the right track?

Cheers

Wrong. The second category would be for companies with offices in multiple states. Single state companies/lawyers would go in the state category where their office(s) is/are located. You will notice that the description for the US category says:
If you have physical offices staffed with full-time attorneys in more than one U.S. state, submit here.

If you have physical offices in only one state, submit only in the state where your offices are located.
