Hi DMoz & All Readers,

I have been trying on behalf of my company to update our listing on DMoz. I have applied to update this listing on several occasions and still the listing is not updated. I would be grateful of any help you can give me to get this listing updated as the current listing is now out of date and factually incorrect and as a result we are worried the current listing are effecting our potential traffic.

Our current listing is:
<specific details removed per forum ToS>

Please could somebody contact me regarding this issue as we would like to get this listing updated as soon as possible, Thanks in advance,

Mark

If you want to request an update of your site's listing in the ODP, the way to do so is to click the "Update listing" link in the category where the site is listed. Update requests tend to be a matter of priority for editors, although there is no time frame for processing them.

When submitting an update request, please resist any temptation to ask for keywords or marketing speak in the description; we get a lot of update requests where the site owner just wants a more "selling" or "SEO optimised" description, and those requests are denied out of hand. If there is an error in the current description, please mention that in the update request.

Thanks guys, but when I have applied to update our listing I have just given the complete description of the new listing we would require. The listing has an error but still doesnt get updated - I even mention that the listing was incorrect but still had no joy??

Can I find out who the editor is for our category so I can contact them directly? We dont want to add marketing hype of selling jargon but just want the listing to be correct. Thanks again, Mark.

Unfortunately you still seem to be under the impression that DMOZ is a listing service, and that editors follow the wishes of webmasters when it comes to listing sites. This is not the case.
If there are factual errors in a listing, of course we wish to know about them, but the description will not be rewritten to your specifications because editors have their own guidelines to follow. :)

OK I understand, but the content that is incorrect needs to be replaced with new factual content to make the description correct?????? help!!!
As I mentioned i'm not trying to spam, market or boost our selling or seo optimism, we just want the correct description in our category.

Than clearly write in the comment field what is "wrong" and why it should be changed.
And don't forget the most important fact. If we can not find that reason on the website we won't change the description.

Ok so we currently have "Offers motocross and dirtbike spares. Clothing, spares and accessories plus a range of leisure wear" and would like our listing to read "Online Motocross Shop offering Motocross Helmets, Motocross Boots, Motocross Kit, Motocross Goggles and Motocross Accessories with Free Delivery on all orders!"

Is this possible?

You're welcome to use anything you like from that description, on your own site. But, sorry, but you've got too much exposure to the marketroid virus to even think about any kind of objective writing. Nothing, nothing at all on your proposed description strikes me as in any way helpful to an editor trying to describe the site.

That's fine, focus on what you do well, and leave objective writing to those who have a passion for it.

But, assuming you can't write an objective description at all, how can you call attention to a genuine factual error in the ODP description?

Try this. Instead of proposing a description, point out the error. "Current description says shop is in Lesser Bingleton, we've moved to Greater Misely." "Current description says we sell used Eastern Block interceptor missiles, we now sell only new Korean models" "Current description says we ship to Australia and Indonesia; but we only ship to New South Wales and North Island, New Zealand". Or whatever.

The editor can take the discrepancy you mention, compare it to the facts in the website, and make any corrections necessary (always bearing in mind the ODP guidelines on equity and style.)

Several people have already explained the Update Request process. Posting here will not expedite that process.

Since this thread is going in circles, I'm closing it. Please do not open any more threads on this same topic.

Thanks.
