A couple of questions:

1. What date in January? Was it before the 24th?
2. You talk about doing lots of work on the site. Is it complete in the sense that all of the internal links lead to content, or do you have a lot of coming soon messages all over the place?
3. What did you mean by: And subcategories therafter. Did you submit it to multiple subcategories as well?

Hello,
Sorry, in reverse order:

3.Yes I submitted to multiple subcategories, the most relevant of which would have been:
http://www.dmoz.com/Arts/Music/News_and_Media/

2. No there are no coming soon messages - have a look for yourself! All the links on the site work

1. It would have been well before the 24th, perhaps in the first week of the month.

So erm, do you have any idea whether my submission still exists?
Thank you,
Ben

It's waiting for review in Arts/Music/News_and_Media. Could you please let us know which other subcategories of Arts/Music you suggested the site to? If we remove those suggestions manually now, there will be less risk of all suggestions, including the News_and_Media one, being removed accidentally.

It would be useful for us to know how we can better get out the message that a site should only be suggested to one single category, and never under any circumstances to more than one category in a category tree (such as Arts/.) Did you find the page for suggesting sites - for instance http://www.dmoz.com/cgi-bin/add.cgi?where=Arts/Music/News_and_Media - unclear or difficult to understand, and would it be possible to improve the wording on it?

My apologies, I certainly misinterpreted the instructions as 'please do not submit your site to any category (or subcategory) more than once under a different guise'. Which I wholeheartedly adhered to. I didn't realise that similar subcategories were also prohibited.

A subsequent re-read of the instructions did a little to clarify this for me. In my opinion the message would be better presented in one or both of the following two ways:
1. An automatic email to confirm submission which specifically refers to this rule of submission.
2. A fail-safe system which prohibits the same URL being submitted more than once within a category (checked against a database).

I found it difficult to pigeon-hole my site within the DMOZ category tree and therefore chose multiple categories, perhaps you could advise.

Uncut.co.uk deals with Music and Movies within a specific editorial concept.

OK, since you can't remember the categories I've made a note on the file.

There are plenty of sites that are difficult to categorise. The best advice is to get as close as you possibly can by reading branch and category descriptions. If your choice is wrong an editor will move it (unless it is so far off target is appears to be a hijacked site, in which case some editors will reject it outright). The site is in the system now and hopefully one of the submissions will make it through to the right category in time.

Yay!

Great, that's really very kind. Thank you, very much looking forward to when it pops up.

Many thanks again,
Ben
