Declined.
Even if it had been suggested to the correct Regional category Washington/Localities/F/Ferndale/Business_and_Economy it would be declined as there is no Regional information on the site past an address, and I'm not convinced by the site that I could buy anything if I went to that address, that you employ people at that address, that you have a storefront at that address, or that the business has any interaction with the local community.

Feel free to resuggest the site to the locality if it ever does have more than an online store.

Oh, and as a former editor you should know that email responses are discouraged. This is the approved forum for asking status.

I really appreciate the prompt reply. Thanks. It's true we do not have a "traditional" store front.

We would certainly welcome anyone that came by our office to learn about our products, or to purchase. We are a member in good standing with the Better Business Bureau.

I submitted to our County because even though the address is Ferndale, we are located way out of town.

When I was an editor I always replied to the inquiries I received. But I do understand why this is discouraged.

Thanks again;

Steve

Additionally, there are 7 sites listed in the category I applied for.

Of these 7:

Joy In Work is not in Whatcom County. Mt Vernon is in Skagit County.

Raventec Hostng shows no location at all - with only an "under construction" notice on their "about us" page, and other pages as well.

Shop Whatcom is a dead link and has been for some time.

The point is that this category is not active, and that nearly 50% of the sites in this category would have to be deleted if the criteria you are applying to my site was applied to the above companies.

My store's admin offices are in a fairly rural area, yet we certainly contribute to the local community, economic and otherwise, as well as to our neighbors in Canada, as many of our products are imported from Richmond BC, to our place of business, before they are shipped on to our customers.

Of the customers that call us (rather than order directly online), many ask where we are located. I am proud to tell them.

I respectfully request that you reconsider our application to the regional category.

Sincerely;

Steve Clay

They just were (deleted/unreviewed/or moved), thanks for pointing them out, if you see more long term dead links, the update url link is the way to get them bought to our attention.

We are not going to call when reviewing a site though, so we won't get told where you are.

I respectfully request that you reconsider our application to the regional category.
We will not action sites based on posts here. An editor will review the site when they get to it. If the information is not sufficient to justify a Regional listing based on the sites contents at that time, it will be declined. Regional is not a list of businesses in a location, its about sites which contain information about and/or relevant to a community. It just so happens that in most cases the smallest communities we deal with also happen to be physical localities.

Also it is extremely unlikely the editor doing the review will read this thread, probably less than 1% of editors come here, it's not a part of ODP ad is unrelated to editing.

I appreciate your time and explainations Gimmster. In your opinion, would it help my effort in getting a regional/business/economy listing if I were to join the local Chamber of Commerce? It's something I've been considering anyway.

Thanks;

Steve
