Your site has been listed in http://dmoz.org/Society/Lifestyle_Choices/Vegetarianism/Directories/ for a long time.

It is noted that there is long history of your site and/or pages within the site being submitted to other categories and rejected from them all.

It has been submitted to and rejected from Recreation/Food/Dining_Guides several times. Your site is more than a dining guide, and submitting there is incorrect.

At some point an editor might decide that the continued submissions are causing more problems that it's worth and take the appropraite actions. A read of http://www.dmoz.org/add.html will tell you what you are doing wrong, and the possible consequences.

Thank you and a question

Hello bobrat,

Thanks for your reply. I personally have not repeatedly submitted my site to other categories, at least not without waiting 6 months to a year (which happened prior to completely reading the guidelines). I realize now this is not how DMOZ works will not re-submit to that category again.
Although HappyCow contains additional information, it is foremost a global vegetarian restaurant guide. It is recommended as the top vegetarian restaurant guide by such sources as Frommers:
http://www.frommers.com/articles/2681.html
and the Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A35262-2005Feb18.html

It seems that other users may have taken it upon themselves to try and list this site without asking us.
i.e. I see we are listed in the locality of Jerusalem:
http://dmoz.org/Regional/Middle_Eas...em/Business_and_Economy/Restaurants_and_Bars/
The above was not submitted by any of the HappyCow volunteers.

Can an anonymous user cause trouble to my listing?

Thanks again,
Eric

PS: While I understand DMOZ's policy, I personally feel this restaurant guide deserves to be listed in multiple categories like other similar sites:

It seems you are listed in
Society/Lifestyle_Choices/Vegetarianism/Directories/
Regional/North_America/United_States/New_York/Business_and_Economy/Restaurants_and_Bars/Guides_and_Directories/
Regional/Middle_East/Israel/Localities/Jerusalem/Business_and_Economy/Restaurants_and_Bars/
Regional/North_America/United_States/Colorado/Localities/A/Aurora/Business_and_Economy/Restaurants_and_Bars/

Those three Regional listings occured several years ago, and are not part of the submission list of multiple categories I originally commented on. The editing rules are more stringent than a few years ago - so those listings are questionable and may eventually be deleted - they would not be considered spam.

However it would appear that you asked for the last one to be changed from Colorado to the entire US within the last month.

The editor who reviewed it seemed to think so. However, I'm surprised he did not also not delete the Colorado entry at the same time.

[Note that I'm just reporting the activity - not reviewing your site as to where I think it should or should not be listed]

Well, it was a kind of not correct request. The directory is not US specific, the root url probably belongs in http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Food/Dining_Guides/ as thats the world-wide category, if an editor decided the dining guide section of the site was the primary purpose of the site.

Personally I think this could be achieved by placing an @link from Recreation/Food/Dining_Guides/ to Society/Lifestyle_Choices/Vegetarianism/Directories/ and leaving the existing listing in Society. (Society/Lifestyle_Choices/Vegetarianism/Directories/ would appear to be a sub directory of Recreation/Food/Dining_Guides/) Disclaimer: I don't edit Society or Recreation.

Any Regional listings would be entirely at the discretion of an editor. You should not submit any sub sections of the site unless specifically told to by an editor. Repeatedly suggesting the site incorrectly is one of the few things that can have severe consequences for your listings.

Thanks for your response 'gimmster'.
The site's primary purpose is a restaurant guide (as the title reads) and with over 2000 pages devoted to restaurants and only 20 or so on other topics this should be obvious.
While I'm clear on not submitting the site again, is there no next step? (i.e. to get the "@link")
Thanks for your suggestions and help.

That's an internal editor matter, I'm afraid. We don't have a procedure for requesting reorganizations from the outside -- perhaps we should...
