Dear Editor / Administrator / Moderator:

I tried to post this in a thread, and for some reason, it wouldn't go through. Anyway, this is regarding the site, studentfilmmakers.com, being listed under the Kids & Teens section.

I'm a parent and teacher, and I do hope that someone - an editor, administrator, or moderator - can remove that site from the Kids & Teens section. There is definitely adult content on that site.

I wouldn't want any of my children (ages 9, 14, & 15) or any of my students (I teach English to high school students) to accidentally run into that website. There are some nice "filmmaking for teens" websites out there. Please, I don't want my children or students running into a filmmaking website thinking it really was for kids or teens, and then run into screenplays or stories or movies with graphic sexual content, violence, or nudity.

Thank you for your time.

Very Bad Stuff

Did you see what someone posted today in the screen writing section? I agree. Get this site out of the kids section now or get the people who own it to clean it up.

Knock it off. Just knock it off.

We have the report, and all these fake postings are not going to get us to move any faster than we are going to move.

Hmm.
Personality 1 asks if we could remove his/her site.
answer: No, unless it contains unsuitable material.
Personality 2 jumps in and starts pointing to unsuitable material.
She is told we will look into the report, buta also that we have serious thoughts about she being an other person that peronality 1.
Personality 3 jumps in an also tells us about this unsuitable material.
We don't believe these are 3 persons but are the same person/company.

If this site conatins adult material it will be removed form K&T. But it will also be removed from the 'normal' part of ODP if it is listed there or it won't be listed at all. And guess what if you remove the material at a later state we very well might list it again in K&T .

ODP editors are quite used to people who like to play games with bait and switch - adding and removing content on the fly to try and manipulate listings.

So when FOPulse joins your forum and makes an off topic post and at the exact same instance a person with multiple personalities comes in here - we view it as more than co-incidence.

But if you want to convert your forum into an Adult website,we will happily remove it from kids and teens and make sure it does not get listed in the main part of ODP either - instead it will be listed in the Adult category of ODP.

Rude is not the answer here

I don't know if this is just a put on or not but my daughter called me and told me what was going on here and I can not believe that you have that site posted in the kids section. Here is just an example of what our kids can look forward to reading.

http://www.studentfilmmakers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1165

1. The lady asked you to remove an adult site from the kids section
2. You are rude about it
3. It is an adult site not meant for kids and you know it
4. you are rude about it
5. I am a pastor of a church and will bring this up in our Adult Sunday School group tomorrow and see if we can’t get a number of people to file and or post complaints here and on your other sites in numbers.
6. I will contact other church pastors about this matter

We will see what we can do. I really can not believe how rude you people are.

Oh, please, get real. Don't make any more threats or I'll have my Sunday School come post in your film forum about the lack of responsible moderators who let porn get posted there.

Hey, it's BBC comedy night, and ... you've fallen into a Monty Python outtake. This thread is too good to lose, so I'm locking it.

<later>re-opening.

I think maybe you are right, it's disgusting that a site that that exists and I'm surprised that responsible companies like B&H Photo would advertise there. I suggest you call them and complain. They are open tomorrow. Call them at 1-800-398-5081

Sounds like a good idea bobrat. Maybe the pastor and the high school teacher would like to lead that campaign.

It intrigues me why a site that may be a good resource for younger students would deliberately want to drive them away even if they are not the target audience. And to drive them away with porn? That is plain sick if you ask me. If the post is still there tomorrow I might write to the advertisers myself.

Responsible parents, teachers, pastors etc. should not permit young children to use the Internet unsupervised - they could easily turn up a site with porn links and content via any search engine.

see if we can’t get a number of people to file and or post complaints here and on your other sites in numbers... I will contact other church pastors about this matter
Absolutely right in one respect, it should be dealt with, though DMOZ is the wrong target, we are a drop in the ocean compared to search engines and we are investigating it - post the complaints about the site itself and to those who provide the funds to run it - the site has "student" in its domain name and in its meta tags which is bound to provide search engine results and thereby attract kids and teens studying the subject. A very cynical approach - use web marketing techniques to get students (often kids and teens) to the site then present them with adult content. As I said, sick.

This site contains adult content links but we are responsible - it is not open to all to see but locked away in a private area requiring an additional password. There are ways of dealing with such things.
