Hello,

I've been trying for quite some time to have my site listed in dmoz. I am sure I have probably way over done the number of times to submit. For that I'm sorry. My web site is www.staffordvahomes.com and my frustration is due to being an amateur at web sites and just ignorance on my part. If someone could please look my site over and see if I am violating any terms that would prevent my listing I would gladly fix them. Also I am not trying to have my site show up more than once. I only need it listed one time. All extra submissions is not me trying to spam or scam. Please believe me. I hate spam and would not do that to others. My site has been active for quite a while and has a google page rank of 4. I am really trying to correct whatever I need to correct and hope my site has not been banned. It is really a good site as well as informative to net surfers. I greatly appreciate you looking into this and hope you can help me

Sincerely

Mike Lennon

We don't do site reviews here. But for a business site, "unique content" is information about the business and the goods and services it offers. If the site has been submitted to the proper category (for real estate sites, that's the locality containing the office), then it's just a matter of doing something constructive (somewhere else) while the editors are working their way through something constructive (somewhere else) to get to work in that category.

Thank You fo r the quick response. Is there such a thing as being banned, and if so, is there a way to get this corrected if it happened because of my mistakes?

A simple human error won't trigger our defence systems. Serious spamming or abuse might well. For obvious reasons, we don't discuss them.

Jim,

Thanks for the reply. I don't know what you all consider simple mistakes but I know I've over submitted my site due to my human nature of impatience. I'm working on that as well as my site.

Keep up the good work and I'll just take up golf while I'm waiting.

Good plans. Just don't think about the ODP while lining up a 4-foot putt, because it will give you the "yips" for sure. :D

Quick question. If the category I submitted to is looking for volunteers to edit, does that mean my submission isn't routed to anyone, or do other editors check in from time to time, or do I continue playing golf until a new editor comes along and edits after he/she is finished playing golf?

Thanks in advance

Sometimes I think DMOZ is worse than a big government agency. Customer support is bad to non-existent, nobody can give you a straight answer, and if you show any displeasure about it you get the "what nerve you have!" response.

It is a sad reality for far too many.

JMHO!

You seem confused as to who the customers for DMOZ are. They're the web surfers, NOT the webmasters or content providers.

Oh, customer support is great. You're just thinking you are our customer as a webmaster. And you aren't, and you can't be. That's OK. There are many people who offer services to webmasters. We won't be offended if you take up their offers.

Just like you can't whine about Walmart because they don't offer surgical operations. Hey, they're a department store, not a hospital. Societies need merchants and surgeons: but if you can't tell the difference, you tend to live a frustrated life (and besides, people tend to look at you like you're both rude and insane.)

And yes, I know, Walmart stockers and Hospital surgeons both use knives. But they use them for different purposes! You want an abominable confection, check out the Walmart bakery. You want an abdominal infection, go to the Hospital.

Yep, webmasters are our suppliers of materials. And with hundreds of millions of websites to choose from it's a buyer's market. Submitters are speculatively sending us suggestions, nothing more, and like the insurance company that mails you their latest product offer every month there is no obligation to buy or even read the suggestion. Ever. Fortunately for webmasters, as users of information in our project we do eventually read everything sent to us, despite having no obligation to do so, just on our timescale not anyone else's.

See what I mean? This is the type of response you can always expect to get out of these people. They would not even have a directory if it were not for the suppliers of the content. But do they show any respect to us?

I would expect nothing less from the DMOZ!

:p

Disgraceful, how they refuse to lie to you, and instead tell you what you don't want to hear.

Rather than letting this thread degenerate into name-calling, I'll lock it. All relevant questions have been answered.
