My mother has an e-commerce site where she sells Gifts, collectibles, and other items from SMC.....I noticed when I went to register her site with dmoz that it didn't accept SMC sites....is this policy written in stone or is there a way she can get her site accepted...dmoz is considered one of the best and most important sites that this is a huge downfall for her site...any feedback would be greatly appreciated....Thank-you...

SMC sites are unlikely to get listed. It's not cast in stone, but pretty close to it. In essence they are "drop ship" sites. Although each site is different in what it chooses to sell, and may seem to be unique, they are in a similar position to sites whose main function is to sell books from Amazon.

"Best SMC site" is an oxymoron, like "best pea in the pod" (or, better yet, "best straw in the haystack.")

SMC, under its various names, is without a doubt without a peer in the sheer number and deceptiveness of spam submittals generated. From the "unique information" perspective of the net, they are as close to not ultimate evil as human imperfection and human venality have yet been able to reach.

We think our users are best served when we list sites that offer unique content (which includes unique products for sale), and leave the enumeration of the nine billion names of SMC fright masks to other parties.

The decision isn't cast in stone. But it is etched in sanguinary letters into the hindbrain of hundreds of editors, and it is to be expected that reactions will seem to be written in vitriol on sodium placquettes. Editors actually experienced the thousands of hours wasted clearing out the rubbish; we know about the tens of thousands of REAL businesses actually PROVIDING products or services that are in some way unique, and yet are NOT listed solely because of difficulties caused by SMC. There is no more fervently hated and cursed site on the net.
