Possible ban?

Hello,

I am not going to list my URL because I know it's against terms here. But needless to say, I suggested a site to dmoz about a month ago, but the site moved to a new server and was down for about a week.

I resubmitted the link, incase the link was mistaken to be a dead site. I was wondering, is it possible that I could get banned for resubmitting the URL?

It has to do with web hosting, which I'm assuming is a very hard category to get listed on anways.

What do I need to do, or what can I do to make sure I don't get a ban. I am definately not trying to spam dmoz, I think I might have made a small mistake by resubmitting it.

Any advice?

No. You can be absolutely sure that the act of suggesting a site twice will not get it banned. What you describe sounds like an utterly reasonable precaution.

Ok, that makes me feel better. I was really worried, and after I submitted the site I was biting my knuckles wondering if I just messed up my chances of getting the site listed.

Editors are not nearly as capricious and mean-spirited as the webmaster forums suggest.

Editors are driven by one single motivation: build the directory with quality sites.

Bans are usually only undertaken when someone has maliciously taken steps to harm the directory. The occasional human error does not subject a site to a bad.

As can also tell you that there are far, far, far fewer banned sites than one would imagine.

The guidelines don't tell people what they must do.

The guidelines tell people what they can do to help: including how they can effectively handle certain common difficulties.

If you think of it this way, resubmittal is an option for the webmaster to communicate information about a site change (and certainly, "going down and back up" is a change.)

Now, resubmittal is not an option for the webmaster to force someone else to do something on his time schedule--in the collaborative-volunteer world that is never an option, and there is never any procedure for it! But there are some people who will abuse any communication channel. And the editing community has to have options to handle those communications.

But there's a world of difference between the webmaster who says, "my site has changed in what I think may be a significant way" and the psychopath who says, "I'll keep abusing your website communications, regardless of your guidelines, unless you do what I want, when I want it!" The former is what the submittal process is for; the latter is what the editor-protection mechanisms are for: including as an extreme case "the community's agreement to not list a site because of webmaster abuse."

You can't.

But it doesn't matter. If your site IS banned, and you keep submitting, you'll be ignored. And if it ISN'T banned, and you keep submitting, it may BECOME banned.

In either case, your best approach is to ... STOP the offensive behavior. If you've suggested one of your own URLs ONCE (or at most twice), then you've done all that you can do constructively.

There's no way of saying, "I know I was banned for abusing communication channels to get my spammy sites listed, but where is the communication channel that I can abuse until I get access to the other communication channel again?"
