pre-application

Hello,
I haven't applied to become an Editor yet, basicaly becouse I'm not certain of few things, so please give me some tips.
I'm an Croatian guy, not english mother tongue, obviously.
It is recuired to speek/spell correctly. I saw categories under Croatia in Italian too. Well, I speek italian too, even better than english. So, my first indecision is wether to apply for an italian or english category. Firs tip about this, please.
Then, I'm also a webmaster. I run my own business site about vacation in Croatia/Dalmatia, so it would be wise to avoid some possible conflict, right?
I don't have some clear prefferences about what category to choose. It is a fact that most of categories under Croatia are uncovered and need Editors, but at the other hand, most of these are very nerrow, so it is dificult to add even one single URL.
Well, I believe that you Editors have enough experience to give me some advice on what category to choose.

I would choose a small (under 50 sites or so is a good starting size) category in the language that you can spell and write the best in. e.g. if your Italian spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization is really good, then that would be a good area to start out in. Or perhaps something small under the Hrvatski category lisahinely suggested.

If you pick Hrvatski try to provide a translation of each section of your application in either English or Italian so that more metas can read and review your application easier. I'm not sure if we have any Hrvatski speaking metas, if we do there are only 1 or 2, there are many more metas who speak Italian and English.

So fill out the application and then after each section put the same text in the other language in (brackets). And mention in the application somewhere what you are doing. Maybe give a link to this forum post even to explain.

Good luck, we need more editors in languages like Hrvatski.

btw, you have wrong charset on http://dmoz.org/World/Hrvatski/

actually we are just in the final stages of updating all of DMOZ to use UTF-8 encoding. I see there are still a couple of errors in that category at the moment though.

The non-valid character strings have been now corrected and uploaded..

Thanks for reporting this bug. It appears to be fixed from the editing side.

but there are still some errors.
You have two different code for the sam characters.
For example Å¡ and © which is not UTF-8.
Next, ž is wrong ONLY in input button for the same charset as rest of the page, but I don't understand why.
