Hi!

I am new around here. I have suggested an website about romanian soccer <url removed> and I got no response.

I tried to become an editor, but they sad that there are to many editors in that category allready. If they are to many, then what is the problem?

Had enyone encounterd this problem? What should I do?

The email declining your application included (my bolding)
Although we would like you to join us as a volunteer editor, you have chosen a category that is already well represented, or is broader than we typically assign to a new editor.
In their disappointment, some people don't notice the bolded part of the sentence - which means that the category is too large for a beginner. I suggest that you try again but for a smaller category of up to around 100 listings.

Thank you for your reply.

The category I'm interested in has only 118 sites. I mean Top: World: Română: Sport: Fotbal http://www.dmoz.org/World/Rom%c3%a2n%c4%83/Sport/Fotbal/

Its subcategories are about specific romanian soccer teams, or about coaches, national team, players and sports betting. I'm not interested by any of those.

Is the category "already well represented" or... 118 is not "around 100" ?

And from the sites listed in this category, not including the ones from subcategories, 2 of them don't exist anymore! The majority of them are free hosted - subdomain kind of sites.

What do you say about the wellness of representation and about the actual number now?

The evaluating meta editor thought the category was too large for a beginner.

I suggest that you begin by requesting something smaller. Once you have some experience, you can seek further permissions.

Those are very often some of the very best sites in terms of unique content and editors are not to consider the type of hosting when determining if a site is worth listing.

The ODP is intended to help surfers, and is not designed to promote commercial webmasters. Keep that important fact in mind if you intend to apply again.

You are right, helping surfers is what I'm interested in also.
I don't know if I'm going to apply again, because I can't apply to categories in wich I'm not interested. This one loked to me as a beginner one, having around to 100 sites, from which half of them are in subcategories.

I was not refering directly to the type of hosting, but to the quality of the copy, wich is better in the "commercial" sites as you called them, because even if they have commercials, at least they are targeted for the audience, because they are put there by the webmaster, nut by the free-hosting company.
