Question about submitted site

In reference to website http://wwww.sunbedservice.com
I submitted to this category: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Regions/Mid-Atlantic/

Acording to a post from: http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=status&Number=31725&page=8&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1 it was moved to: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Maryland/Localities/B/Baltimore/Business_and_Economy/

After checking the competition I noticed they are listed under http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Beauty/Skin_Care/Sun_Care/Tanning_Beds/

My question to you is since my site has not been listed yet will there be any harm in submitting to a different category? The category I would like to submit to is: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Beauty/Skin_Care/Sun_Care/Tanning_Beds/

Thank you,
Sandy

One of the major requirements for a lisdting in the Shopping category is that the site provide online ordering. Your site does not, so therefore it does not qualify.

Hope this clarifies the situation.

That's what I thought too, but the two companies I am familiar with do not offer on line ordering either.

So can you tell me if it matters where or which category it's listed in when it comes to search engine purposes? Another words would it help with Search Engine Rankings if a site was listed in a higher level category vs. a sub-category?

The other question I posted was: "My question to you is since my site has not been listed yet will there be any harm in submitting to a different category?" would this be spam for submitting twice. I don't think there is an editor for the category my site sits in now. Should I submit to one with an editor? Wouldn't this help speed up my review?

I can't comment on other sites which are listed, but if you think they are inappropriate you are welcome to submit an update request on those URLs, suggesting the category to which they should be submitted. (It's not just the site owner who can submit an update request)

As for how Search Engines are affected, we specifically have no interest in issues like that. I would suggest you ask in some of the other online fora that specialise in search engine issues.

If the category you submitted the site to is the most appropriate for it, then submitting it again will not speed up the process - an editor would just move the site to the current category, where it would sit and wait.

I advise patience.. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

I need to clear up a mistake I made. I had said:
"One of the major requirements for a listing in the Shopping category is that the site provide online ordering. Your site does not, so therefore it does not qualify."

This is actually incorrect. The definition is more like:
"One of the major requirements for a listing in the Shopping category is that the site provide products for sale, prices, and information on how the consumer can obtain the product from their own home"

Sorry about that.
