Hi Editors,

Some questions:

1. If a site requires registration to access much of the content (not ALL of the content, but much of it), do I need to provide a means for editors to be able to login to the site to view all of the content in order to get accepted? If so, how do I provide that info on the suggest a site form? Will an editor take the time to register or will they look at the site and dimiss it because they can't see enough content without registering?

2. You don't offer site submission status checks any more but I think I read somewhere that re-submitting after 6 months is not unreasonable if you're still not listed. Is that true? Sounds like conflicting advice if there is a chance that could lead to being classified as a SPAMMER.

3. If my site has many users, how could we know or avoid the appearance of spamming if our own user are submitting our site unbeknownst to us?

There are only 4 fields on the suggest a URL page, so providing additional notes that may be helpful to an editor such as a demo login and password is not possible.

Thanks in advance...

I'd recommend putting a reviewer login and password in square braces in the description. Depending on the nature of the site (and the editor), an editor may sign up in order to view the content (assuming it's free registration) but if they don't, the site may languish there until someone comes along who wants to do that.

Two submissions, 6 months apart do not a spammer make.

That's not likely to get you tagged as a spammer unless you're specifically urging people to submit you. You may want to ask them to not submit the site, just in case.

Hi Motsa!
Thanks for the quick reply!

1. Hmmmm. I've heard the 'square braces' advice before but wasn't quite sure what was meant and the format of how to do it without mucking up the actual site description. Could you give an example? My submission (today) did not include the braces with login info. Do I need to wait 6 months to re-submit with login info?

2. Makes sense!

3. I can see how asking members to submit would not be good, but I certainly don't want to ask them not to submit as it seems that would short circuit a natural process. I don't suspect we have an over abundance of users submitting, but I was just curious since I can't know if a user submits some time close to when I submit.

The site registration is free but I've been a bit concerned about the amount of content on either side of the login fence. If you could elaborate on how to provide login info to editors, that would be very helpful.

Thanks again!

You would submit a description like: "Blue widget portal offering forum, community wiki, and articles. [reviewer login=johndoe, pass=f5ri9994]". The reviewing editor will remove the notes in square braces before adding it. (Note: descriptions are frequently mostly or even completely rewritten by editors so don't worry too much if including the login info results in you not being able to write the description you want.)

I would go ahead and resubmit it with the login information.

If you've already submitted it, they're not helping you by also submitting it. I'd go ahead and short circuit the process if the possibily is a concern to you.
