Hello,
I am very interested in becoming an editor for a category that doesn't seem to exist and whenever I try to find a specific search term nothing shows up. Sure, I can apply to become an editor of another category of something else that I have experience in, however, I see a large hole here for search terms/categories that seem to be missing. I would like to suggest creating a new sub-category "cloud computing". Within this category, I'd like to suggest creating further sub-categories like "Virtualization" ie KVM, XEN, OracleVM, Virtualbox etc etc plus IAAS/PAAS/SAAS/DRAAS etc etc. I will give you an example of what I mean by "missing" - For IAAS (infrastructure as a service), most of the competitors are not listed and the ONLY one I have found is Amazon AWS (S3), which is their storage solution. You can see this listed in "Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Applications/Storage/". You are actually grouping this with hosted solutions that are using third party storage technology, whereas Amazon S3 is developed in-house and NOT a storage SaaS/regular archive service (ie. box.net (already listed in dmoz)) which a lot of those listed actually are. In fact, those other websites listed could be using S3 or another similar storage technology (with a layer of orchestration above to control data). Actually, it's more or less wanting to separate the product from the service.
I'm a cloud analyst and can devote some time to get these populated (with proper websites in their proper categories) as I am well versed across this industry. I can actually get more specific than this, but I think I've explained well enough to get my point across. If you need more details, please do not hesitate to reply to my post as I'd really like to be an asset to DMOZ.
Regards,
Steve
