I submitted a site called tnhayurveda around 2 months back but its still not added. What could possibly be the reason for the same. My site is not a spam one nor does it violate any dmoz rul. So can anyone guide me regarding same so that in future i take care of given points while submitting a site to dmoz...

One of the easiest mistakes that people make when submitting their sites to Dmoz is to forget to ensure that it is free of defects. www.SiteReportCard.com
If you score below 8 reconfigure your site, submit it when it has passed the test, after you have submitted to Dmoz - leave the Editors in peace and quiet. (Except here, of course) Oh, did I mention Content?

Unless a site is completely unnavigable, we don't care a whit about being optimized, fully HTML-compliant, or anything else like that. We don't look at HTML source code. Regular users don't; there's no need for us to, either. We're even pretty good at ignoring broken images (unless they're the meat of the content) and, frankly, we have listed plenty of extraordinarily ugly and poorly-constructed sites.

A site should be COMPLETE. Links should lead to pages with real content. The first whiff of "Under Construction" or similar text is usually a fast ticket to the directory dustbin.

It's all about the content. If the content is there and can be found with a reasonable amount of effort, that's all that's necessary. If there is no content, it doesn't matter what sitereportcard.com might say about a site; it's not listable. The ONLY time when poor design is a factor is when the design actually prevents the content from being viewable.

Greetings Wrathchild, if people new to this lovely world of SEO do not have some simple guidlines to help them achieve their ultimate goals then we are self defeating ourselves. By running a site by SRC they can at least see what a spider will make of their site. Dmoz is a 'human resource platform' that luxury cannot be said of anywhere else other than paying for Yahoo. Yes Google is going into Human Resource Searches but that is a few years away yet.

There seems to be some confusion here. WE aren't in the lovely world of SEO at all. We're just humans (as you say), looking at websites like humans do.

I will say, anyone proposing to represent himself as a professional in the SEO business, really needs to know the ODP guidelines cold, and really needs to be able to look at a site and tell whether an editor would list it. It's not really that hard a skill. Because we just look at sites like humans look at sites. We look for what the site is about; we look for what information it contains; we ask whether we couldn't have found that information elsewhere.

What hutch and wrathchild said. We care about unique and useful information and, apart from downright user hostility, we don't pay any heed to standards compliance, keywords or ranking.

Heh heh. I have a website about my local village and its history. SRC marks it down for not having a keywords metatag.

Who cares - when fed with the village name, Google and Yahoo put it in first place and Ask puts it second :).

And that is called 'Obscure Keywords' and I often suggest that as being an extremely good way of getting listed. If Dmoz is not part of the wonderful world of SEO, then why do nearly every single forum on the planet have a Dmoz forum? (except mine lol) :D
And with all due respect to all you guys and girls, why is the Dmoz forum considered one of the best General Knowledge (On SEO) on the planet, if it is not part of the whole scheme of things?

Because SEO people are interested in DMOZ - not the other way around ;)

I'm always amazed, humored really, at all of the SEO experts out there who tout the power of DMOZ, the ability to "get around" and "guarantee" listings and the sort; with a mere few seconds of personal research, I've yet to find one that has their own site listed in DMOZ.

BTW - Where's this OPD SEO Forum ... no one invited me!? :D

That's a very interesting insight. It does seem that most of the SEO experts who complain about ODP also do not have their sites listed. I wonder why that is. Possibly the real SEO experts actually keep their mouths shut.

Probably because the real SEO professionals make their submission and then move on, knowing that there is a lot more to SEO than simply submitting to DMOZ and then spending the next year whining about the lack of a listing.

The good SEO experts know that the ODP is a part, and only a small part, of a good SEO campaign.
