Regarding my application for becoming an editor

I volunteered to become an editor for:

However my application was rejected. I feel like that happened because I also have a personal site in queue for submission in that area. I know ODP does not want somoone to become an editor just for the sake of promoting his/her website, however I made it clear, well as good as possible, that I am interested in art, and personal art, and since they are lacking an editor for that section, I would like to contribute.

I am just curious on your thoughts. I understand if I cannot become an editor since I have my own site in queue to be listed (hopefully) in this section.

I'm not a meta (so I don't know what really goes on inside of their heads <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> ), and I obviously didn't see your application, so I can't comment on specifics. What I can tell you is that at 114 listings, that's a fairly large category for a new editor. And with a similar number waiting for review, it would likely be seen as much too large. My advice is to look around for a smaller category in which you have some interest (perhaps in your hometown, or a smaller category in the arts). If you're accepted, you can learn the "editing ropes" in a calmer atmosphere, and once you get the hang of it, you can try applying for a larger category, like this one.

Apologies for my appaling US geography, but http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/T/Tampa/Arts_and_Entertainment/ is the closest I could find that is related to your home town.

Your geography is just fine. Tampa Bay is a region (or metro area), not a town, and it includes Tampa, as well as St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and a bunch of smaller towns.
