Regional and Topical listing query

I have a site, http://www.preslec.co.uk currently listed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Lancashire/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/ which is a regional category can I ask for it also to be listed in:

http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Kitchen_and_Dining/Appliances/

which although it say it is regional is more of a topical type category. If I did submit to this category would it be seen as spamming or is this what is meant by being able to be in a local and topical category?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Kari

A fair question: the answer reasonably could go either way. I think in the ODP, the Elbonian editors have agreed to let a site be listed twice like that, and the Lower Slobbovian editors have decided not to. Or was that the UK and Australia? Or Australia and the UK? The final decision may have been based on the perceived likelihood that a business in Nether Sniggling (or Hither Furtheronia) actually serves, or is potentially patronized by, a significant part of the country.

I think I'll let one of our Brits answer this one. But I don't think that one submittal to each of two categories would be considered as spam (whether or not the editors decide to list it in both places.

What makes something "spam?" A callous disregard for such concerns of the recipient as could be readily known to the sender. ONE submittal of an affiliate site, or blind lead generator, is spam -- you could read the SUBMITTAL POLICIES and know not to ever submit it in the first place. ONE submittal to each of two "closely related" categories, or ONE submittal of each of two related sites to the same category, is blatant spam, and again the submittal policies are clear enough.

But for borderline cases like this where the taxonomy could go either way, where the site actually has relevant content about a genuine local business, the categories aren't related, there's no intent to deceive by using different alias URLs, then a single submittal (or even two submittals, see the submittal policies) to each of the categories ISN'T spam.

As your current listing is based on your 'Locality' you may well be able to submit your site to a UK level category although as I am not familiar with the specific cat you mention I cannot confirm it as being the correct one for your submission. But yes it is possible to have one at locality and one at UK level in certain circumstances.

I would firstly take a look at the following that may help you decide if and what cat your site may be submitted to.

The submission guidelnes for the category you mention are here.
Also, as it is a sub-category of Shopping, these guidelines are also very relevant. I would pay close attention to the shopping guidelines. One fact I am aware of for UK Shopping is that the service you offer must be UK wide thus relevant to the entire UK audience.

It looks like your site would also fit in that category, in that it has prices and how to order on it. Feel free to suggest your URL there and we'll review it for listing.
