Regional vs. Subject

Hello everyone,

I have asked my submission status in the other forum, however I believe here is the more appropriate forum to discuss this matter.

I have seen it has been discussed before, however I would like to know a bit more about it.

My Australian beading/jewellery supply website www.mybeads.com.au was submitted to http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Crafts/Supplies/Beading/ a few months ago.
Spectregunner has told me it has been moved to http://dmoz.org/Regional/Oceania/Australia/Business_and_Economy/Shopping
Which I guess is correct, however it is not very specific, is it? I mean, Australia is a big place. Is Dmoz primarily for the US then?

Is it possible to be listed in both categories? I have heard editors say there is nothing wrong to submit to both, but how often do sites get accepted into both?

Would my submission be simply overwritten if I resubmitted to http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Crafts/Supplies/Beading/

Thanks for any help you can offer. :)

Kind Regards,
Michelle.

When you are done ordering from your site you get this.

"My Beads will email you within 48 hours to confirm your order. This e-mail will also contain payment information. Thank-you for shopping with My Beads!"

In order to be eligible for a Shopping listing ordering and payment has to be automatic. The policy of your store emailing back with payment information is what keeps you from being listing in the main shopping category. Hope this clarifies for you.

Thank-you, it does clarify it.

Now I have a new question:
Is there anywhere more specific I can submit my site to then? Even though my shopping cart is not automatic? I have info and a forum, too.

I have re-written this post 3 times now, however I have concluded there is not much point in trying to get the rules changed for me (haha) but instead I should change for the rules.

I will try and set it up so that the few people paying with credit card can pay instantly, and I will resubmit to the category.

Thanks for your help.

Kind Regards,
Michelle.

Ok, that's done!

Thank-you for your help. Hopefully it now conforms to the guidelines. It is great that you let me know what the problem was, and I could do something to fix it. Payments can now be made instantly via paymate (which is not limited to just Aussie buyers, btw).

Thanks again!

Best Regards,
Michelle :)

I'm not a shopping editor, but I suspect that "International orders (outside Aus) please contact first for a quote."(as regards shipping) is still going to be a problem.

As export orders are GST exempt, you have a 10% margin to add towards shipping, so it might be worth just wearing the cost difference in shipping. Although I don't see any mention of GST on the site anyway.

Another option might be to use the Aust Post rate calculator to provide different rates for either auto or manual entry. http://www1.auspost.com.au/pac/index.asp

Just something to think about, as I said, Shopping is not my forte.

I'd resubmit it to the Shopping category with a note on the description [like this in brackets] saying online payment now included in shopping cart, and maybe the url of this thread.

I've taken your advice on board, and now international shipping is a standard $8.50 AU. I worked out that to be the average cost from my past orders, so like you said every now and then I will have to wear some of the costs, but then every now and then the shipping might be less too. Does indeed make it easier!

Regarding GST, if you were wondering, it is included. Makes it much easier that way. Everyone is so used to it now (unfortunately) I find it is almost always included. For international orders, they just pay the same amount as they have extra costs involved (paying with credit card). So it all works out in the end.

I am glad this was brought to my attention, apart for perhaps being eligible for that category, I think it is now also more user friendly and simpler to use. And surprise suprise, that was what DMOZ was aiming for, right? Good quality sites? Worked this time :D

Thank-you again.
And to think I was worried about posting ;)

Regards,
Michelle.

To ANYONE who wants to accuse us of being routinely unhelpful, I'd like them to bookmark this thread. Michelle, you have been polite, asked for help, and it was obvious to the editors that with some small changes, the site could be more listable (and by that we mean that we consider it more useful to the end-users of the directory). I feel that it is no coincidence that Michelle also feels that it will help her business.

Have a great week, everyone!
