Hi Jim, one quick question please.

Jim, I was reading the data below, I can't recall if I received the email to confirm my email, and I never got an email saying it's in the system, I think my application was lost somewhere along the way, and this is why I need to ask, should I send in the Reinstatement Application again?

Thanks in advance.

*********************************************************

Immediately after submitting your application you should have received an e-mail asking you to confirm your e-mail address. If you did not receive this e-mail, check any spam or junk mail folders and filters that might have blocked the e-mail from arriving. Hotmail and Yahoo spam/junk mail filters have sometimes blocked e-mails from us. Your application will not even be in our system until you have replied to that confirmation e-mail.

The subject line of the confirmation e-mail contains a 32 character key that is only used by the system when you reply to the confirmation e-mail. Make sure that when you reply to this e-mail that your e-mail client (a program such as Outlook, Netscape, Thunderbird) does not cut off any of the characters in this 32 character key. If any of the characters are truncated, the system will not be able to validate the key and it may tell you that it could not find your application. After you reply to the e-mail and the system confirms that your e-mail address is valid, that key is never referenced again. We do not see it when we review your application so you do not need to include it here when you are asking for a status request. We have no way of looking for that key in the system.

If you received the confirmation e-mail stating that your application is in the system, then your application is most likely in the system. You really should only be asking about the status here if you have reason to believe that your application was lost somewhere along the way.

When should I inquire?

Hey Jim, hope all is well.

My question today is, how often should I inquire on the status.

I check my email many times in the day, hoping to see a decision.

In the mean time, I know there is new data that can go into the area I was editing, and some data that needs to be changed.

I am excited to get at it, and keep my part of the internet current.

Hoping to hear some good news...

Thanks

Seems there is lots of people that are asking about Reinstatement Application's, with good reason.

Why is it, there is so long to wait to find out if anyone's Reinstatement Application's get approved? I have asked Jim Noble, and I understand to be patient, as he has said: No decision has yet been made. Please be patient.

How can we tell if anyone is even looking into it?

How long does it normally take for "reinstatement" to happen?

I know applying to be an editor gets a fast yes or no.

I was absent for a bit in my area, but it's a very small town, and there was only a few sites to post, but now, there is more to add, and some to update.

I would like to get at it, and make the changes and additions, just so I can do my part and keep DMOZ and my part up to date.

If someone in the Resource Zone can help with my question, I'm sure the answers will also help others who are also waiting.

Thanks...

patiently waiting :)

Hi bbax

As you’re applying for reinstatement you will already be aware that we are all volunteers from editors to admin with varying amounts of time that we all try to commit to the RZ & ODP, therefore as Jim Noble has already kindly stated please be patient then emphasis on the word patience.

How can we tell if anyone is even looking into it?

If you have asked for a status check then that in itself is informing you that it is in the system awaiting processing.

As soon as someone gets time I'm sure they will get round to looking at your reinstatement application & advise you accordingly.

What if....

What if, the person that's getting around to it, has never come back to do their part? Is there others that also oversee the process. Perhaps the person looking into my reinstatement application is traveling the world and does not have the time, or desire to do what's needed? I would hope, that at some point, within 90 days of first asking, that there would be some hope, yes, hope, that an answer will come sooner.

Once, and I hope it's soon, when I get reinstatement, how can I also become one of the people to help others with their reinstatement applications so that the wait periods become shortened.

Reinstatement requests go into a pool, where any meta editor can look at them. So you're not waiting for a single meta editor to find the time to do something with the request.

Only meta editors and catmod editors can review reinstatement requests (metas can see all of them, catmods can see the ones for their areas). So, if you want to become one of the people who helps with reinstatements, you need to work your way up to being a catmod or a meta editor. That would take a lot of effort and work on your part.

So would I, but your request is dated November/11/2007 - 40 days ago whereas your last edit was over 500 days ago. Meta editors are volunteers too you know, just like you were :)

The process...

Motsa, I think your statement will help others understand the process, as I have in the past only been told to be patient without the process being explained, this leaving me the impression that reinstatement could be like trying to win the Super 7 here tonight for 30 million dollars.

As for being a catmod or meta editor, please don't rule me out yet ;)

500 days... 90 days... 40 days.... 14 days...

Hi Jim, my area to edit, is a town of 300 or less people living there fulltime. No one from the town has ever submitted a request to have a website added to the directory. It's up to me, and me only to find them, and now there is some that I have found that should be included.

My statement:

:icon_arro I would hope, that at some point, within 90 days of first asking, , that there would be some hope, yes, hope, that an answer will come sooner...

means:

:icon_arro Have the system send out an acknowledgment when it's sent in: Yes, we got it, have a time factored in as to when it should be completed by, like within 90 days.

Currently, we send it in, we don't get an auto response that it's received, we then ask, get told to wait 14 days, ask again, wait again, ask again...

I don't want to be a pain, I just want to do my part, and continue to be a member of this community.

If you want to become a catmod or meta editor, you need to find work for yourself. If your current category doesn't offer enough editing, apply for another category. And keep doing that whenever you run out of stuff to keep you busy. Consider that most senior editors have tens of thousands of edits behind them and have edited all over the directory -- if that's what you aspire to, then you need to take the bull by the horns. :)

If your reinstatement is accepted, and you want to grow your skills as a regional editor, contact me via the internal feedback mechanism and I will gladly work with you and help you to grow.
