rejected countless times

Dear ODP team,
Ive over these past few years applied so many times ive actually lost count. Its been very disappointing to say the least but i do respect your decisions. Ive applied to many small catergories in my regional area like you have recommended but still to no avail.
Im from Australia, what catergory could i apply for that i could assist with for someone who wants to get the foot in the door.

Thank you for your time

Umm, I have no idea what categories you applied for, or the reasons for rejection, but I do note that you have at least ten spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors in your posting above. I suspect that an applcation in the same style would be rejected quite rapidly. You see, submitters would go ballistic if an editor wrote the site titles and descriptions with that many errors in them. Some editors here are not that good at spelling and grammar, but they do take all reasonable steps to check and correct their work before hitting submit. Since editor applications are not stored after rejection, I don't think anyone can comment on previous applications unless they happen to just remember yours (unlikely as there are hundreds per week).

Well i have just recently been rejected but the instructions were clear which is great to see..

quote "you have chosen a category that is already well represented, or is broader than we typically assign to a new editor. We would encourage you to re-apply
for a category that has fewer editors or is smaller in scope, in order
to increase your chances of being accepted."

My nickname i have chosen is penfold25. I have also chosen a catergory below the previous application so i hope that makes a difference.

Regional: Oceania: Australia: Victoria: Business and Economy: Shopping

If you have time can you review my application and see i have not violated any conditions as i always seem to do that.

Thanx very much for your previous post, I definitely took it into consideration when i wrote the next application.

pfiasco, I applaud you for persevering, and it looks like you did the right thing - actually *read* the feedback that you were given and tried again. I wish more people would do that, rather than just whining about how they have no idea why they were rejected.

One of the things I have learned as an ODP is editor is that I never know enough, and there is always more to learn - people who expect everything to come easy and be fed everything on a silver plate will struggle with being an ODP editor. It's a highly rewarding challenge, as far as I am concerned.

Thank you for your post - it brightened up my morning.

Oh one more tip, as mentioned above - proof-reading and spellcheck are everyone's friends. (I am possibly the world's worst typist, and make more mistakes than you can imagine, to which anyone IMing me can attest). I try to take extra care over anything I am going to be adding to the ODP directory, though. Doing this for editor applications is mandatory, imho.

Thank you all very much.
I'm glad my persistence paid off and welcome the chance to work with a great bunch of people.
I hope to get to know many of you and together we can keep this as the number 1 directory in the world.(Yahoo doesn't count).

Congratulations and welcome to the world of ODP editing - if you thought it was tough to get in - now look at all the stuff you have to read and absorb!

I think this thread is a great example of how to become an editor.

Glad to see you took the feedback I gave you when I rejected you before and applied again for a more appropriate category! Welcome.

We did have a person a while back who was a horrible speller and writer, yet the application was flawless. Apparently that person got a lot of help with the application, but that's it. That editor got removed soon enough. Spellchecking and other helps aren't ANY good unless they're used all the time - if you're someone who needs them, that is.
