Rejected from Requested Category

I just got rejected for the category I requested to edit - but the reasons given are confusing. I am told that the category I chose is already well represented - yet at the bottom of the page it says "this category needs an editor." I am also told "the category is broader than what we would assign to a new editer" - yet it only has 145 sites listed. I also read (here in the forum)that even if it says "this category needs an editor" that sometimes the editor from the category above it is taking care of it. If that's the case then what is the point of looking for even "smaller" categories? Do you guys ever reconsider your decisions?
Category requested:
Top: Shopping: Home and Garden: Furniture: Children

Just because a category does not show an editor does not mean it does not have one. The editor for any higher category above it can also edit it.

Just a few points:

1. Generally new editors are accepted into categories with 50 sites or less - 145 is very big.
2. There may be an editor above that category who is already doing a good job, and therefore it doesn't need another editor.
3. Shopping is one area that is subject to a lot of abuse from submitters. We prefer to accept more experienced editors there, as they are more clued up about what to look for and what to do.

There are many other smaller categories that need editors - it would be stupid to accept new editors into categories that are already tended to when others are very much in need of attention.

If a new editor is accepted into a well tended category, it can be hard for them to learn and demonstrate the basic editing skills needed to advance to another category. Generally, it is easier to get accepted to small regional categories or "hobby" categories as a new editor because these are not prone to abuse and usually have lots of opportunity for the new editor to add sites and cleanup what is there. A common recommendation if you are interested in Shopping, Computers, or Business is to start with something simple, maybe in a totally different area, and then after having demonstrated your editing skills, begin to apply to the categories you are more interested in.

You might like to check out
a few tips here and even more here .

Once an application is rejected, it is "gone"; so there is no reconsideration of that particular app. However, using the tips linked above, feel free to reapply.
