Removal of old out-of-date pages from ODP

Hmm, how does this work? I recently discovered the ODP and submitted a new site. I found a very old page listed on the ODP that has bogus information under the same category that I submitted. The site in question is promoting the same organization that I have been commissioned to promote. But, it looks like it is some type of free webring service that no one is responding to. The site may be interefering with my clients business. It has the incorrect phone, schedule and prices.

Should I simply submit an abuse request? And how would I do that? Thanks, TW

There's no reason to submit an abuse request to US: if your client is being misrepresented, then HE should be contacting both the webmaster and the ISP to take the other site down. Once it is down, the ODP listing will need changing to reflect the new reality -- and an "update URL" suggestion would be the way to do that.

Good point. Get the orginating host and/or webmaster to pull site down. We have been trying for several weeks to contact those parties with no avail. They are not responding. This is becoming very frustrating. Do you have any other suggestions? How about if I try the change URL request anyways?

It will be rejected.
We will only change the url of a listed site if we find evidence on the old site that it is related to the new url.

Yes, this kind of thing is really something you don't want volunteer editors adjudicating. It's a matter for the courts and the law.

OK, thanks for the help. We will try again to have the site pulled down. And, then I will submit a change URL request.

And if you are successful in getting the site pulled down, you might be pleasantly surprised by our link checker which does a pertty good job of periodically identifying non-functional links.
