Hello,

I am requesting, most humbly of course, a new category in order to suggest a site more correctly, and accordingly to the rules.

The new category is Iraq, under the following category-chain:
Top: Regional: Middle East: Business and Economy: Shopping

Currently, the following categories are available:
Bahrain, Cyprus (Isn't it in Europe?), Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestinian Territory, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.

The site I want to suggest is a new Iraqi shopping and advertising site.

Thanks in advance!

If a particular sub-category isn't available, then you should suggest your site the the parent category of the missing sub-category (ie one level higher in the tree). New sub-categories are created by editors when they see a need for them, which typically means having a handful of sites of a particular type/sort listed in the parent category.

Note though that in Regional: Middle East: Business and Economy the individual countries are not true sub-categories, but what we call "@links" (because of the "@" after the name) that point to categories elsewhere in the directory. If it existed the Iraqi Shopping category would actually be a sub-category of Regional: Middle East: Iraq: Business and Economy -- so if your site would belong in an Iraqi Shopping category, you should suggest it to the existing Iraqi "Business and Economy" category (linked above). If/when an editor thinks the Shopping sub-category should exist it will be created and any relevant sites sorted into it.

Thank you very much for your informative answer.

I am adding the url to your suggested category.

Cheers!

I tried to suggest a new sub category in Business : Environment but keep getting an error when I submit the form... how do we fix that?

Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /cgi-bin/send2.cgi.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

As written in the post you quoted. There is no option to suggest a new subcategory. We only create them when needed. Needed = we have enough sites listed or in unreviewed to populate such a new category. You can suggest the site to the best, available category.

This is a known error that keeps poping up when you send a message to an editor. It is mentioned many times in this forum. AOL technical staff are aware of this issue but we do not knwo when it will be solved.
Despite this error message the email will reach the editor. Do not expect any answer as we advise editors not to answer emails.

That is not correct. You were given a detailed reply from a volunteer meta editor, which I will quote here:
t4m, ODP is not a listing service, nor have we ever promised to be one. We find sites from a variety of sources, and the suggestion pool is only one source. Frequently it is a very poor source, some new editors are quite astonished at the amount of spam in the suggestions. Since you have suggested your site, you've done all that you can do. Since you say that you've suggested at least one of your sites several times, please stop suggesting it. Resuggesting it more than once or twice can have negative consequences. The popularity of a site or placement in Google searches have no bearing on whether a site will be listed. Also, if your sites are related, it is possible that only one will qualify for a listing.
I suggest you read that reply more carefully before making any more complaints or demands.

Sorry but is not an answer...
I don't know:
What can I do? who can me answer to the specific questions?
Especially if the mail-form are not working..

Yes it is, and it is the only one you will get, no matter how many times you ask.

Please do not keep asking in the hope of getting an answer that you like better - if you read it more carefully you might understand why.

Some Moderator thinks he's the God :(
I had some real problems with the dmoz. I have specific questions what you could be resolved in 2 minutes.
Instead of somebody help me or you tell me who can help, you write here: how to dmoz working now.
But now the dmoz working badly (This is especially true in the Hungarian content: there are some spam links, and relevant links are nowhere).
I'm not only complaining. I'm trying to help the dmoz therefore I tried to became an editor here:
http://www.dmoz.org/World/Magyar/Játékok/Internetes/Flash/
and here:
http://www.dmoz.org/World/Magyar/Tudomány/Oktatás/Szakképzés/
I made a formal procedure but I can not answer.
(perhaps I made a mistake (I don't know...))
if it can help you my email is: <email removed for privaacy reasons>
be a better the World :)

No, maybe getting desparate that you do not accept the answers given to you. The answers are the only ones we can give you and they are the truth. Ofcourse we can give you ansers you would liek to hear bt they wouldný be the truth.

> I have specific questions what you could be resolved in 2 minutes.
But DMOZ editors decided long time ago not to answers thar type of questions. If we would answer them for you we would have to answer them for everybody.

> you write here: how to dmoz working now.
Well, yes. Doesn't that seem appropriate. You ask how something works and we tell you.

> But now the dmoz working badly
It all depends waht you call "badly". We know DMOZ is not perfect but it is all we have to offer.

> there are some spam links
Those you can report either here in the forum (Quality Control part) or on DMOZ (update request).

> and relevant links are nowhere).
Those you can suggest.

> I'm not only complaining.
Hmm. Seems different to us.

> I tried to became an editor here:
> I made a formal procedure but I can not answer.
If you did not get an answer within 14 days you can ask about your application in this forum (Becoming Editor part).
