Hi,

I am curious if someone can help.

We were listed on Dmoz for years under Residency.info . However, last year we gew significantly and started offering a world more than just medical residency information. The domain name www.residency.info would subsequently point only to the residency section of the new much larger main site: www.mdmaker.com.

So, last week I updated our listing of residency.info in category http://dmoz.org/Health/Medicine/Education/Residency/ with the new URL mdmaker.com and of course new description but I checked today and now not only is MDmaker.com (new site) still not listed AND residency.info has been taken down from DMOZ.

It was just an update not a removal of our listing all together. Can someone help me understand what happend here?

Thanks a million

Hi

Usually this means that your site has been unreviewed from one category and sent to a more appropriate category for rereview. If the editor has editing privileges that let them edit in both categories, they would normally (if they have time) do both. If the editor of the old category cannot edit in the new category, all they can do is add it to the review pool for another editor to complete the task.

It could be that the editor reviewing the site found something against our guidelines that meant it could not be listed and it was unreviewed because of that.

It is worth checking the guidelines to see (just in case) especially as you have been listed for a long time. Sites mutate over time and can drift away from our requirements. It may be that after several years this has happened to you but only you can tell.

I suggest asking yourself questions like: Does the site site match the category description? Is the content now mainly affiliate links?
Do you use ODP data without following the license? Does your site have unique content? etc. etc.

You are best placed to tell which of the two scenarios is the most likely and a quick run through the guidelines will help.

regards

Thank you both for your replies.

Some of the links on our site are from DMOZ but we have always placed the ODP attributes on the links section of our site. I just double checked it again and it is there. http://www.mdmaker.com/mdm/links

I cannot think of any other reason but is there any way to find out if the new listing is being considered or we are deleted all together for some reason?

ok, the implementation is not the problem (I just double and triple checked!)

I read those pages you suggested but there is nothing in there that we are ignoring.

The only thing I found was that it said if we are using only parts of the data then we should specify that. That seems to be a very minor issue but nevertheless I have placed a text under the DMOZ attributes stating that only some of the links are from DMOZ.

Other than that, I honestly do not know where else we have gone wrong.

Did you notice the part that says
($cat should be expanded to be the path to the category containing the data being displayed, e.g. "Arts/Movies")

I don't know if that is the only problem, but it is the one that I noticed immediately.

ok! It is fixed. The problem was a template issue but now all categories that have links from DMOZ are pointing correctly.

Here is the final question: IF the site was removed because of the broken link issue, now that this is fixed, how can I get the listing back? Do I have to resubmit and wait years again?

Is there anyway to find out if the site is just simply being sent to a new category (that's why it has disapeared after the correction) or it was just rejected?

Again, thanks for your help!

No. That would be a status check, which we no longer do.
