I was just wondering if there are any rules for writing the description of your website when you submit it to DMOZ. I know that ZEAL likes to have all their descriptions a certain way, and even makes you take a test before you can become a member so that you understand what they are looking for.

Also, I saw on one thread that the editor will change the description of a website to fit more with the DMOZ style. Is this true?

There are rules concerning the descriptions, yes. These are publicly available at http://dmoz.org/guidelines/describing.html . When you suggest a site for inclusion, you don't have to follow those guidelines, but if you do the editors will be very pleased :)

Very, very few descriptions are used as they are suggested, even if the person suggesting the site has tried to follow the guidelines. In most cases, the suggested description is completely removed and rewritten from scratch, but if you've supplied a guidelines-compliant one it's likely that some or most of it will be used in the listing.

Hope this serves to make things clearer. {moz}
