I have a website listed on DMOZ already, but would like to list a page on that site under a different listing, as it has completely different content. How can I ask an editor if it is different enough without just submitting it and risking being banned?

Thanks.

I would expect that, if it truly is "completely different" content, you wouldn't have to ask if it was "different enough". In any event, the only way to get an editor to look at it would be to suggest it. One additional suggestion, even if it turned out to be inappropriate, wouldn't get you banned.

not the smart alek comment
Not a smart alec comment but words of wisdom gained through much experience :) .

If your main site is about employment for example, a subsite about stamp collecting wouldn't have a problem. A subsite about sales jobs would.

Since I can't come right out and ask, I'll give an example similar to my site:

A website for word processor software with a subsite that is a free writing course (business letter format, essay format, scientific publication writing, newspaper writing, etc.).

One of the reasons why we use human editors is that they are capable of and empowered to make judgements. We do not try to give general answers to hypothetical questions of that sort here because there is not a hard and fast rule that meets all cases. Neither will we give specific answers about specific urls. You'll just have to make do with the two examples I gave.

Suggest your website to the most appropriate category or categories and trust the editors to do their jobs.

It kinda looks as though you are trying to find a loophole in the law. There isn't one because there isn't any law to begin with. We simply look at the intent :)
