Search results do not show my site. Why?

My site has been listed on Dmoz for many years. In that time my site has not managed to show up in search results using the location name (keyword) of that particular region. All other sites with partial reference to that region area show in the results. My site follows the guidelines and contains quality information on the region it is listed under. I am very worried about this as so many directories and search engines base their results using Dmoz database information. Is it possible to talk about this to an editor so I can offer my URL for closer a look. Please.

You do that by using the "Update listing" link on the category where your site is listed. Anything else is inappropriate -- we don't deal with specific sites in this forum and few editors will respond to feedback regarding how to help someone's site come up better in search results.

Also, I don't know why you've chosen to bump someone else's really old thread in order to make this post -- I've split it out into its own thread.

Thanks for your comments. I have been using the "Update listing" link on the particular category. On the point about search results, I don’t even exist within the search result. I'm only trying to figure out why. There is six sites in my regional area offering the same service. Five come up within the results and mine does not. I cant accept why my site simply does not figure in these results. You made your point very clear about not dealing with specific sites and I will accept that. Could you please however offer me some idea as to where I go from here?

Two points regarding ODP search, which might helpto solve your problem:

1) It is not a site search. It searches for the URL/title/description used by the ODP only.

2) The search does not work with live, but with precompiled data. So search result can be up to one/two weeks behind the category. Check the date at the bottom of the search results for the current timestamp.

Thank you windharp. I will try to update my sites title/description again. I did so some months ago but it only seemed to last a week before it reverted back to the original description and title. Thanks for your help. I have a better understanding now.
