I am unable to find numerous companies by typing in their names in the search feature. Until very recently, they could be found. For example, I search for southeast aviation and get no results. Previously, I would get several results for that search.

I have tried many other companies that previously could be searched and I get "No Open Directory Project results found."

What is going on? Have categories been deleted?

I've been having the same problem for several days now.
I read somewhere that the crew was working on it, but haven't seen any status updates.

Search on dmoz.org is still not functioning as it should. Staff is aware of the problem and is working on it.

Still worked on. Due to the time a single regeneration of the database needs, debugging search is not the quickest task, I am afraid.

Thanks, it looked like it was broken but I couldn't find any mention of it so it is reassuring to know it is being fixed. I was afraid there had been drastic changes to dmoz of which I was unaware.

If the new RDF from 2004-04-29 is OK, then it might be fixed in a couple of days. If there is an intrinsic problem with the search script itself then it will be longer (no idea how much longer: could be days, or weeks, or more). If the new RDF doesn't help matters, then it could also be a couple of weeks, or more, before normality is restored.

The search at Google Directory works OK, but has data that is several weeks old; but, it works so it will find *something* as opposed to ODP search which finds *nothing*.

This may be an inappropriate comment, but couldn't one do a google (or altavista, or,....) search restricted to dmoz.org? It won't work for URL searches, as far as I know, but would pick up categories, titles, and descriptions fairly well.

That's what I've been using as an editor while dmoz search is down.

I wasn't aware that Google was that up to date.

I thought that they were a month or more behind.

Search engine broken :(

My web page is no given when I submit any search term applicable to it. It used to but not now. Can you fix it again? This is the second or third time its happened.
The following are the kind of results I am getting:

Search: faradic aversion therapy

No Open Directory Project results found

I am still listed in the psychology alternative but my page address won't come up.
P.S. no one has yet answered my e-mail on this mater. What happened to the "Humans do it better" motto?

Because the search computer is still broken, and the search is done by a computer not a human. :p

The humans are trying to build a better directory, and not a better search engine. :)

Searching in here is simpler http://directory.google.com/

[Caveat - this forum and the author of this post makes no represenration as to the usability of searching in Google. We are not Google, we are ODP. Google works to their own schedule. Google has a search engine that is radically different than the [currently non-working] search facility in ODP. Do not ask questions about Google in this forum. No waranties are implied or assumed. If you don't find your site there, do not complain here.]

The latest update from staff on the search situation is that they estimate that the rebuild of the search databases will be complete in around two days' time.

We are keeping our fingers crossed.
