Hi,

I have had sites listed in DMOZ and I am aware that it often takes some time to be reviewed, but generally after a few months I follow up with the editor and they are listed. I have waited several months with no response to a site, but there is no editor for the section:

Top: Regional: North America: United States: Arizona: Business and Economy: Real Estate: Rentals

What do you recommend to help get the site reviewed?

Regards

I'd recommend reviewing the real estate guidelines. Real estate agents and agencies are listed in the MOST SPECIFIC GEOGRAPHIC TOPIC that contains their OFFICE. The number of suggestors who don't bother to read the guidelines--or think the guidelines don't apply to them since their clients offer coverage of the whole galaxy, or at least the local spiral arm--is legion.

That means the editors have a lot more work to track down the actual agent address and forward the site to the right city (or county, if a rural office). And that work is, obviously, a rather low priority for everyone in the local spiral arm (except possibly the agent himself.)

You can shortcut that extra work by:
(1) going to the most specific geographic entity that contains the office (or most of the offices)
(2) going to its business subcategory (if any)
(3) going to the real estate subcategory (if any)
(4) suggesting the site there
(5) ... with a title including the agent or agency name (or both, if applicable)
(6) ... with a description identifying but not describing the AGENT, and describing the WEBSITE.

If you've dumped into an inappropriately broad category (which includes 99.99% of all real estate suggestions at the state level), then you may be able to save some time by resuggesting at the right category. And the right title and description makes the suggestion look professional: that is, makes it more likely to be picked out of the self-adulatory shyster-hype (that characterizes so much of the competition) for quick review.

Thank you. I do believe it is the right section, but possibly there is nobody editing the section. The company is a California based company that operates apartment communities in Arizona. Would that not be the correct section?

Thank you for your time.

Regards.

This would be the unique operator of a chain of apartments that extends over several counties/metro areas, but all apartment complexes in the chain are in Arizona? And the information being aimed at potential renters at any one of the complexes?

And unique--that is, the apartment complexes don't have their own separate websites?

You are quick, thank you. Mostly correct. They are a unique operator with a chain of complexes in one county at this moment, but yes, shortly it will be in other counties. To avoid multiple requests I made it broader to Arizona rather than the county level. The properties each have a section within the main site, but they do not have separate websites hosted on separate domains. All of the information for all of the complexes will be included on this one main site as the new complexes are added.

To avoid posting a URL in the Forum, I sent you a PM, I hope that is OK.

Regards

I still haven't received anything saying that I have been refused, but I still am not listed. I am trying to be respectful and not submit my URL again, but I'm starting to think it may have gotten lost somehow. In the past I have submitted URLs and it has taken some time, but after a few months they have always been approved.

Here's some boiler plate that I post most days for the benefit of folks who haven't noticed the link to this forums FAQ - which addresses your question.

You might have misunderstood our objectives and how we operate here. ODP is a volunteer organisation building a directory as a hobby. Editors edit where they wish, when they wish and as much as they wish within the constraints of their permissions. We have no schedules or systems to force people to do work that they don't volunteer to do. ODP is not primarily a free listing service for website owners and it does not attempt to process their listing suggestions within the time scales desired by them.

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.
