Hello,

I have a delicate situation and I would appreciate if you could give me some advice.

I wish to apply and become the editor of a small section listing commercial websites selling some type of luxury items. I have recently reported the current (and unique) editor of the category for listing his own websites selling counterfeit --yet advertized as authentic -- merchandize. My ticket (a4b3d3565e77c4586093342f29bbbae3) has not been looked at yet.

More than just get the current editor removed, I would like to apply and become an editor myself. I have a passion for the category of which I am an avid collector. Over the years, I have acquired the skills and knowledge that allow me to tell real from fake items, and I have become a trusted source on authentication forums where I have helped many people stay away from scammers. I feel I could expand my "mission" by becoming an editor of the section which could definitely use a good clean up.

As I was planning to say no less in my application, I would like to ask you:

1) Is it ok to be critic towards the current listings or is badly perceived? The form asks what
three websites I would like to add, not what current listings I would like to see removed...

2) Will the current editor of the category be reviewing my application? I hope not!

3) Is it fine if I go ahead with my application now or do you suggest that I first wait for the outcome of the abuse report?

I appreciate your help. Thank you.

It is not rare thing for luxury items, isn't it? :)

Senior editors (a.k.a. meta-editors) will review it.

Mentioning editorial tasks you would like to do in the category, other than just adding sites, is perfectly fine; if and when you do become an editor you shouldn't start removing sites without discussing it in the internal forums first, but mentioning in your application that "I think sites x, y and z should be removed from this category because..." is a good idea. Since you can't know who added the sites in question, or when (because a couple of hundred editors are able to edit in each category, even if there is no named editor there), it wouldn't be seen as criticism of any specific editor.

2) Will the current editor of the category be reviewing my application? I hope not!

Only senior editors with specific permissions (Meta or Catmod) are able to review editor applications. Other editors can't see the applications at all.

By all means go ahead with it. You could mention the abuse report in your application if you like.
