Not being an expert in search engines, I employed the services of a "professional" SEO expert. Learning as I go, I eventually realise he is not what he claims to be. There were several problems with my site (now fixed) but I have no idea what my submission status really is. I know what he tells me but I dont believe him. I have fired him but need to know where I am. He may or may not have caused me damage. Particularly concerned with DMOZ status.

I have now submitted to the correct category which is:
http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Uni...g/Recreation_and_Sports/Motoring/Classifieds/

Not sure what he did.

Can anyone please assist?

Many thanks
Charles

Hi Charles.

Its good to know that everythings well with your site but unfortunately we do not provide submission status. The particular editor on that category will review it. You already have done what is necessary.:D

The particular editor on that category will review it.

Or, it could be reviewed by any editor higher up in the directory tree, or any editor with directory-wide permissions.

Thus, it would be an exercise in frustration for you to try to locate any given editor and try to get him or her to provide a status.

Just to add that timescale to review and result are unpredictable. I suggest that you pursue additional promotional means.

Many thanks

Advise and comment is helpful. I depend on the site to make a living and can't afford to be blocked because someone else messed up. Am using ppc and other promotional tools but they are expensive. Need some more organic traffic. Am starting to get some from MSN and Yahoo which is good but Google is a different animal.

Appreciate the help.

charlesr, if your site depends on the ODP to survive, then ... it is in OUR interest NOT to list it and let it die, recommending instead sites that do have their own adequate promotional and content-creation strategies.

This sounds harsh, but it is not as harsh as the reality: which is that (as anyone WITH an ODP listing will tell you) neither the ODP nor any other passive programme can possibly have the influence you assume (and need).

to be blocked

A site that has not been reviewed yet has not been blocked, even if it has been waiting upwards of 4 years.

A site that has been reviewed and has been found to be noncompliant is not blocked, it is simply not listed.

The ODP does not have a category called "blocked sites" so there is really no way we are able to "block" any site. We may or may not list a given site, but that is quite different from "blocking."

Understand what is being said. I do have content creation and other promotional strategies but as DMOZ has such a strong and valued reputation, it would be really nice to be listed. Many thanks for your comments and feedback. I'm getting wiser with each one.:)
